Parents and guardians please note that our policy regarding family visitation for school Quodpot and Quidditch games has been revised: immediate family, only, will be allowed from now on; extended family members must be pre-approved by Dean Bevin.
A 'Club and Sports Fair' will be held on September 7, for those students interested in extra-curricular activities. If a student plans on joining more than three activities, that student must maintain at least a B average. All students on either a school Quodpot or Quidditch team (excluding intramural) must maintain a B average or face suspension from their team.

Yours Sincerely,

ELECTIVE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS - FIRST YEAR

Ancient Runes - Professor Montignac
The history and basic uses and meanings of runes and sigils. Students must note that this is the equivalent of a foreign language course and, in further study, the class will depend heavily on written and oral work. Students who wish to begin this course during their third year must prove they have adequate prerequisite knowledge (as determined by the Professor) of the course material prior to acceptance, as well as Dean approval.

Arithmancy - Professor Bradley, or Professor DiFerro
Arithmantical basic theory, functions and equations. Students have until their third year to begin this course (Arithmancy is open year-round for the student's first three years). While students may begin the course later than their third year, it is not recommended.
Prerequisite: knowledge of long-division, advanced multiplication, fractions, decimals, and basic geometry.

Divination - Professor Desai, or Professor Despy
First year is a writing-focused course. Focuses on the various forms of divination as well as its history, theory and belief in both the magical and Muggle worlds. Students may begin this course during any year, though applicants in Year 4 and above cannot have Professor Desai for their professor.

Eastern Magic - Professor Mei
First year is a writing-focused course. Focuses on the history and theory behind Eastern Magic as well as its fundamental tools and uses. Includes supplemental reading of first-person (translated) essays and letters. No spells are taught first year, but some are described for use as examples. Basic knowledge of ancient and modern Mandarin and/or Cantonese is recommended but not necessary.
Parent's Note: Each year, during Spring Intercession, students will have the option to participate in a two-week field trip to the Gansu and Qinghai Provinces of China and Mongolia. If financial assistance will be necessary please request, complete, and return form FA-626 from the Ministry of Magic's Office of Educational Finances prior to the student's applying for the class. Students have the option of starting this course during either their first or third years only.

Elemental Magic - Professor Conleth
Fall and Spring semesters will cover the creation, reasoning, and original uses of elemental magic (magic involving the four elements: earth, wind, fire, and air) from pre-historical times to the dark ages. Summer term will cover the most basic and ancient spells still in use today. Students have the option of starting this course during either their first or third years only.

Healing Magic - Professor Waite, or Professor Ablate
Fall semester covers physical anatomy, touching on the magical anatomy of witches and wizards. Spring and Summer semesters cover reproduction, birth, growth, and old age in biological terms. Students have the option of starting this course during either their first or third years only. Those students wishing to begin during their third year will be taught by Professor Ablate.

Muggle Studies - Professor Yolen, or Professor Perry, or Professor Berry
Fall semester covers pre-historic Muggle history. Spring semester covers Muggles' ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and early Rome. Summer semester introduces Muggles' basic ancient Asia (focus on China and India), and Northern European (focus on Celtic) history.
Prerequisite: basic knowledge of Muggle American and Western European history, up to modern times (the Professor requests that students are at least aware of some Muggle technology). Students may start this class at any time, provided they prove that they have adequate prerequisite knowledge of the course material, as determined by the Professor.
Parents Note: Weekend field trips to local Muggle towns are possible at any time, and a letter of permission is required before admittance. The field trip fee is null for this class, as the school will take care of the neccessary payments, though parents are suggested to purchase their student/s Muggle clothing.

Native American Magic - Professor Twolight
First year is a writing-focused course. Focuses on the history, beliefs, and theories behind Native American magic of North, Central and South America, with concentration on the relationship between magic and religion.
Parent's Note: this course requires two trips abroad, per year, to visit Native American reservations around North America; if financial assistance will be necessary, please request, complete, and return form FA-626 from the Ministry of Magic's Office of Educational Finances prior to the student's applying for the class. Students have the option of starting this course in either their first, second or third years only.

Theurgic Humanities - Professor Westcar, or Professor Corin, or Professor Berry
Students will study basic composition, as well as touch on the art and philosophy of the magical world. The first semester is creative-based, focusing on art and philosophy, and students will be expected to compose their own creative works. Second semester will focus heavily on the written form, including grammer, spelling, and syntax, and the reading of novels written by witches and wizards, as chosen by the professor. Three essays of no less than two rolls of parchment will be required. This class is open to all years.
Parent's Note: This class offers an optional two-day field trip during Spring Intercession, during which those students with guardian permission will be taken to see a play at the famous Leveau Stagecoach Theatre in New Orleans, Lousiana. The field trip fee is null for this class, as the school will take care of the neccessary payments.

*End Note - Students wishing to take a class taught by more than one professor, should list their preferred professors, in descending order, on their reply owl. Professors will then be assigned by a first come, first served basis. Schedules can be changed, on a case by case basis, at the disgression of Bergamot's Academic Counselers, as follows:

For Last Names A - F: Mr Stubbs
For Last Names G - M: Mrs Donno
For Last Names N - Z: Ms Rivera
