Preparing Your System 
Step 1. Installation Note: It is important to load all communication components in the proper order. Proper installation of RAS and Routing occurs as follows:


Install Windows NT Server 4.0, (If already done do not repeat) 
Install any new LAN and WAN hardware, (If already done do not repeat) 
Install Windows NT Server Service Pack 3 or 4, (If already done do not repeat) 
Install the RAS and Routing components, (If already done do not repeat) 
Re-Install Windows NT Server Service Pack 3 or 4 (whichever you installed prior) 

By sequentially loading each of the features you insure a proper implementation and minimize the chance of encountering any unforeseen issues. 
Step 2. Before you install Routing and Remote Access Service, install all the hardware on your computer that you will need for a router. This includes modems, ISDN devices, or other remote access devices for remote access connectivity, as well as network adapters for network connectivity. Use the manufacturer’s instructions to install these devices on your computer.
