Here is a photo of the underside of the Velo 500.

There are five hatches on the bottom of the Velo 500. Two are for
flash RAM or ROM (I am unfamiliar with the card size here).
One is for the lithium disk backup battery (size 2032). One is
for a "type II PC Card V-Module" which is as large as the Velo 500
itself, and can hook onto the bottom of the Velo. Finally,
there is a long battery compartment for the single NiMH battery
that comes with the Velo, or for two AA batteries of your choice.
