Palm VIIx Review
Page Two

This is an "amateur user's viewpoint" review,
and comparison to Wizard OZ-770
of the Palm VIIx by Marshall St. John

The Wizard OZ-770 is about the same width as the Palm VIIx,
but the Wizard is a little bit longer. See the scan below:

Screen sizes are different, of course. Here is a picture showing
comparative screen sizes. The Sharp screen and the Palm screen are
both among the better gray-scale screens, and both work just fine.

Many Palm word processing applications offer font size and boldness
adjustments, which you do not get on the Wizard. However the Palm
backlight is really dim. The Wizard's backlight is pretty good.

I want to do three things with my PDA: 1) Carry around addresses
and phone numbers; 2) Carry around memos and ebooks; and 3) Use my PDA as a
mini-word processor. The Wizard OZ-770 is excellent for carrying addresses and
phone numbers. The WizBook application makes it quite good for carrying
around an ebook or two. The Wizard's memo function is easy to use.
It is easy to copy short memos from a PC to the Wizard. The Wizard's
keyboard was better than using "grafitti" or a "thumb keyboard"
to create memos on the go. But, using the Palm full-sized keyboard is a
pleasure! Here is a photo of my Palm with the keyboard attached.

Important Note: The GoType keyboard is too small to touch-type
comfortably. It can be done, but errors will crop up often.
Get the collapsible Palm keyboard, and you won't be sorry!

The portable Palm is a full-size keyboard. It has little rubber feet to keep it from sliding on the table. There are special keys for accessing features on the Palm PDA. The action of the keys is fine, and it needs no batteries. I find it easier to type on this keyboard, than on laptop keyboards, which are usually set far back on the laptop. The Palm keyboard folds up and becomes about the same size as the Palm VIIx.
