Marshall's Osaris Review
Page Two

Measured with a ruler, the Osaris technically seems only a little larger than the Sharp Wizard OZ-770. However, that extra half-inch in length, and half-inch in width, and a quarter-inch in thickness, actually makes the Osaris much bulkier and heavier. It is not something I want to carry in my pocket!

My biggest problem with the Osaris has to do with synchronizing with my PC. I just can't do it, because (as far as I can tell) the Osaris is not compatible with Windows ME, which is my operating system. The Epoc Connect 5 program on the cd, simply will not setup and load onto my computer. As you can see from the scan below, Windows ME is not mentioned.

The Connect 5 program WILL indeed load onto a computer running the Windows 98 operating system. I have tried it on another computer running 98, and it setup fine. I have found two other synch programs, which would work on my ME operating system, but they will not communicate with the Osaris. These programs are Psion's own PsiWin 2.3.3, and the other is Companion Link Express 1.3.

There is one way my Osaris can communicate with my PC, and that is through the compact flash card. I inserted an 8 MB CF card in the Osaris, and had no trouble typing a memo and saving it to the CF card. I put the CF card in my CF card reader, attached to my PC via USB. Then I can read, copy and edit the file on my PC, and save it back to the CF card, and put it back in the Osaris, and there it is. However, this is cumbersome, and not very useful. You can see the hatch for the CF card in the scan below:

CONCLUSIONS: I cannot do a really full review of the Osaris, due to it's refusal to work with Windows ME. However, even if it did synch well with my PC, the only advantage it has over the Wizard OZ-770, in my opinion, is the additional memory capacity.
