Marshall's Review of the Royal ezVue1 (One Megabyte) Personal Digital Assistant |
In its favor the Royal ezVue1 has the ability to synchronize
data with MS Outlook. However, the synchronization is incomplete,
not transfering ALL the Outlook information.
Also, the screen is so small, that lines
of information that would normally be
easy to understand, are now spread
over two or three lines, and the
line breaks come at odd places,
so the information is difficult
to read. The info sticker placed
over the screen in this photo
is more clear than the screen itself.
Also in its favor, the ezVue1 comes with a cd that has a rather attractive, though simple, PIM (Personal Information Manager) which can also sync with the ezVue1. Here is a screen shot:
Here is a photo of the ezVue1 hooked up to my PC via serial cable, in the act of synchronization:
There is a line of buttons across the top of the keyboard, and just under the screen, by which you may access many of the functions of the ezVue1. Here is a scan:
These buttons are not easy to push with a finger. I ended up using the blunt end of the stylus as the best way to push a button. Also, the buttons are wobbly in their holes, and have a tendency to get slanted, and stuck under the holes edges, instead of popping right back up. The keyboard "keys" (buttons) work better than these "menu buttons."
I was particularly annoyed by the MEMO function of the ezVue1, because memos are limited in length to about 200 characters. This limitation is not mentioned anywhere on the packaging, or in the manual, and must be discovered by trial and error. Of what use is a megabyte of memory, if your memos are limited to 200 characters?
