PEOPLES COALITION AGAINST WAR (PCAW)
Updated Statement after Bushs State of the Union Address

January 30, 2002

Were back to the 60s!

Riding high on the so-called victory in Afghanistan, the Bush administration is fixing their sights on the so-called Axis of Evil (nations that Bush thinks is against the United States) Iran, Iraq, and North Korea.  They are trying to repeat Vietnam in the 60's.

Bush says he will conquer recession and create more jobs, but instead he wants more money for war and home security. He wants more to bail out rapacious private corporations like Enron that invested and lost $2.1 B to stock market derivatives.

WE SAY WE ARE AGAINST BUSH'S WAR! MONEY FOR JOBS, NOT FOR WAR!

We are against a war that sidetracks peoples concerns. While our people are told to sacrifice and are languishing in recession, budget cuts for the elderly, the welfare recipients, for health, and for education is the order of the day.  While the Bush administration bails out airline corporations, 11  million are unemployed. More workers are losing their jobs. Bush asks $48 billion for war and spends $30 million a day for the war in Afghanistan but is not creating jobs.  He calls for tax cuts but does not provide new homes, schools and benefits to the youth, women, and the elderly.

We say no to a war that is based on an interventionist foreign policy a policy that threatens the Philippines, Iran, Iraq and Korea. That coddles the Zionist state of Israel while watching the Zionists butcher the Palestinian people.

We say no to unjust war that is waged for the interests of big multi-national corporations. These are not the American peoples interests. We should not let our finest sons and daughters die just for corporations to rake in maximum profits for corporate greed and super patriotic pride. We do not want a repeat of Vietnam, Lebanon or Somalia. We say, NO MORE WAR! NEVER AGAIN WAR! We call on the US government to stop its foreign policies that are biased, one-sided, exploitative, and oppressive.

WE SAY NO TO STATE TERRORISM!

Terrorism may be defined as the willful and malicious infliction and threat of death and other physical harm on innocent civilians. We are against all forms of terrorism may it be state sponsored terrorism dictated by a fascist, or individual or group initiated terrorism. We condemn the carpet bombing in Afghanistan that have killed more than 5,000 Afghans. We say no to violence against the people of any nation, especially if it is to suppress their rights and liberties, in the so-called name of freedom or national security. We express alarm over the unknown powers of the Homeland Office for Security. We protest its gargantuan budget of more than $1.5 B that will be used to spy, harass and monitor the progressive sectors of our society.  Stop the racist and discriminative attacks on our communities!

We are against the increasing racist and discriminative attacks against our brother and sister Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians in the United States. We raise our voice in protest against 1,200 racist and white supremacist actions since September 11.

We are against the antiimmigrants backlash and the scapegoating of people based on their race, immigrant status, religious beliefs, political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, and others. We should not encourage hate and take it out on immigrants, Arabs, Muslims, South Asians, immigrants, and fellow sisters and brother in our nation. Uphold Freedom and Democracy and Fight for our Civil Liberties!

We are alarmed over the provisions of the PATRIOT ACT. It infringes on many of our hard won freedoms. We must organize and educated the majority of our people not just to go on with their normal lives and accept the state impositions on us. Especially restricting our freedoms and civil rights. We should always be protective in retaining our freedom and rights because we have fought a civil war and two world wars to uphold it.
