| Panel #1: US War on Terrorism & Its Effects on our Community Topic #1: Education and Militarization Speaker: Jose Duenas Centro CSO Clean Schools Campaign Committee What is the intention of the US in attacking a country, destroying it and occasionally even destroying the communities here in the US? In education they remove funds from the school district, funds dedicated to the elderly and children. Disgracefully this is something that affects Latino communities. I'm asking you to make an effort to stop this, to be a country that really knows what it wants, and that we educate ourselves to try to better ourselves in all aspects. That's what I have to say about the current theme of terrorism. If you look in your handouts you'll notice that we're a group of parents in Boyle Heights that are fighting for clean school s and education. You'll see the condition in which our schools were embarrassing. In the small trifold you'll see what we've accomplished today. Speaker: Blanca Duenas - Centro CSO Clean Schools Campaign Committee I support this event. We've noticed that united we can accomplish things we desire. Like the placard says, "The people united will succeed." And we ask the critical question of why the schools of affluent communities are in good condition and the poor are in such bad conditions. I believe we all deserve the same benefits and opportunities. I'm very content that there are so many different people here to see what can be accomplished. Our obligation is to unite parents to see that there is opportunity for better living and better life. As parents we should unite because we're on the "way out" so we should provide a better future for our children. The central them of CSO is better schools and better futures for our children. |
