| Richard Tuerk got his bachelor's degree from Columbia College in the City of New York and his master's and doctorate from Johns Hopkins University. He has been teaching at what is now Texas A&M University- Commerce since 1972. In 1991 the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation named him a Piper Professor. He has published in the fields of American Renaissance, American Realism, Immigrant American literature, Jewish American literature, and children's literature as well as distance education. He founded the area of Science Fiction and Fantasy in the Texas/Southwest Regional PCA and served one term as president of the Texas PCA. |

California State University, Sacramento Research Interests: Gender, race/ethnicity, and popular culture. Her most recent work has focused upon the construction of race, gender, and sexuality in the works of Joss Whedon. Her dissertation concerned the construction of women as monsters in the works of Octavia Butler, Alice Walker, Meridel Le Sueur and Marge Piercy. She has published essays in Exchanges, The Journal of American Culture, FEMSPEC, and is revising a piece for Frontiers. |
