August 2004 - A Visit Home
Hello everyone back home. It's been awhile since my last e-mail. I've been going to the beach with friends quite a bit. Trying to get tan for when I come home. I'm also doing a week long computer class this week in a village not far from my town. That was just kind of sprung on me at the last minute! I sit here day in and day out trying to get projects off the ground and I wait and wait and wait for responses, things take forever here. And then suddenly my supervisor tells me, "Oh yeah, next week you're going to Maywan to teach a computer class for a week" Um, okay! Luckily I had already prepared a class for something else that fell through, so it wasn't all that bad. You see, the big news in my life and those around me, is my vacation back home! That's right, I'm heading out of Senegal in 2 weeks and will be spending a month back home.
Here's a small oddity for ya: last week I had the house to myself for the whole week! This is no big deal back home, when there's only 2 or 3 people in a house. But in Senegal when there are always cousins and brothers and friends and cousins of the brother of a friend coming and going and staying over, an empty house is well, about as common as a Wal-Mart here! It was nice. My mom was all worried for me staying by myself. I reminded her that back home I lived by myself several times. I got eat my own food and do what ever I wanted! I ate BLT's, potato salad and cheesy omelets.
That's about it really. I have a few funny stories, but I think I want to save them for when I come home, because they are much funnier with hand gestures! So just wanted to let everyone know that I am alive, healthy, happy and will see all of you soon! Love to everyone!
