It might take a whole day to
re-install operating systems and applications on a new hard
disk, along with boot diskettes, CD-ROMs, system utilities,
and distributives, and much typing in of product serial
numbers and setup parameters. On the opposite, Acronis
Migrate Easy 6.0 allows transferring the contents of hard
disks up to 10 GB large to a new 20–30 GB one
in some 1 to 2 hours, and all the applications
remain fully functional. When re-installing from

What operating systems does Acronis Migrate Easy
work with?
The answer to this question is
better divided in two parts:
1. Installation program from the CD-ROM can be executed from
Windows. After launching it, you can choose if the new hard
disk installation Wizard should be launched directly from
the CD-ROM or from a boot diskette that has to be created.
2. If you create a boot diskette, Acronis Migrate Easy 6.0
does not require any operating system at all to be launched.

does not actually require any operating system to run, it
works properly with disks of any size, as long as they are

What are the default settings for transferring partitions from an old
hard disk to a larger new hard disk in the automatic transfer mode?
In the automatic mode
partitions are transferred from an old disk to a new one
with proportional increase in size. Hence, even if the old
disk was much smaller than the new one, there is no free
(unallocated) space on the new hard disk after transfer (if
there was no unallocated space on the old disk).

Can Acronis Migrate Easy resize partitions during transfer?
Yes, it can. You have to select the "manual"
transfer mode and select the "manual" way to transfer partitions to the new
disk. This allows you to change parameters of partitions that can be selected
from the list of partitions on the destination disk. Partitions can be moved
and/or resized with help of the mouse or the keyboard & drive copying software..

Is it possible to create new partitions that were absent
on the old disk on the new disk during data transfer?
No, it is impossible. You can
only resize partitions that existed on the old hard disk.
However, while resizing existing partitions, you can leave
some disk space unallocated. Then you can create desired
partitions in that space. For example, if you have a Windows
operating system, when transferring data to a larger disk
you can leave some disk space unallocated and install a
Linux operating system there afterwards.

How is safety provided for the data transferred to a new
hard disk?
Data safety during transfer is
provided just as normal PC functioning. You should provide
that it is impossible to accidentally power off or reset
your PC. On the other hand, if you have not specifically
selected the mode when partitions are created on the old
disk or all data from it is erased, nothing is threatening
the data on the old disk. You will be able to use it again,
should the first transfer attempt fail.

Is it possible to accidentally damage data on the old
hard disk while learning how to use Acronis
Migrate Easy ?
The safety of learning how to
use Acronis Migrate Easy is provided in two ways:
1. All operations with hard disks are pending. It means that
first the user creates a scenario of how the partitions are
transferred to the new disk, and only then he approves its
implementation. If the user refuses to implement the
scenario, no real actions are done with hard disks of his
PC.
2. Especially for tutorial purposes Acronis Migrate Easy
has a demo mode. In this mode the user has access to all
operating modes, but can launch a created scenario neither
accidentally nor purposefully.

Can I use Acronis Migrate Easy for backuping my
hard drive to CD or any other removable media?
No, Acronis Migrate Easy is
designed to work only with hard disks. The main Acronis
Migrate Easy task is to help you to migrate information
during new hard disk deployment.

I use Roxio GoBack and tried to migrate data from my old
drive into new but the system from new drive does not boot.
What's wrong?
When enabled Roxio GoBack
changes existing partitions types (FAT32, NTFS, etc.)
into its own type. Therefore in order to migrate your data
you should boot from Acronis Migrate Easy diskette after GoBack is loaded. When GoBack splash screen appears, press
space and select booting from floppy drive. After that
proceed as described in user guide. New for tablet pc, pcs.
