Angeles City, Philippines, which is where we live, came into existence primarily as an R & R spot for the American military personnel who worked in Clark Air Base, or passed through on their way to pastures new. At one time there were several hundred go go bars in this town, but after the volcano, and the closure of the airbase in 1991, this number dwindled. Nowadays things are getting better and the town is coming to life again.

There are several quality hotels in town, at prices you'll never see in the west
A typical street scene in Angeles. 'Jeepneys', on the left, styled on war time military Jeeps, and 'Owners', to the right, which are, again, based on Jeeps. Imagination in vehicle design is not at a surplus in this country!. The strange vehicles in the background are "trikes", or rather a motorcycle and sidecar, for carrying passengers.

Margarita Station, where we do most of our eating out. It has a restaurant, pool tables, internet cafe, runs minibuses all over the place and serves the best Thai food outside of Thailand. In six years we've never had a wrong meal or bum service. It was originally called "Margaritaville", after the place of the same name in New Orleans, but Jimmy Buffet got a bit "cross" and forced them to rename it.
The photo above shows some of the "bar girls" who make sex their career. The argument will go on forever, but in a country where the average wage is three dollars a day, who can blame them for preferring to work in a bar for twenty! Plus there's the chance to meet a kind/stupid foreigner who'll "take them away from all this"
