| By far, the worst fire in Parkersburg's history broke out on Saturday evening around 7:30pm on November, 30, 1929. The fire started in a room under the stage in the "Camden Theatre" and despite the efforts of Parkersburg's entire firefighting force, scores of volunteers and the work of firemen from nearby Marietta, Ohio with additional equipment the enormous blaze reduced an entire business square on Market St. from 7th St. to 8th St. and extending back to an alley that lead to the rear of the Camden Theatre and all buildings along the north side of 7th St. west from Market St. to the alley in the middle of the block. |
