| The first Courthouse was in a residence on the southside of the Little Kanawha River. The home of Squire Hugh Phelps near Neal Run was the first courthouse, and during the meeting of the court there the chief business was conflicting land entries. This place served as headquarters for legal and community matters for about two years following the formation of Wood County.
