The Butcher House used to stand on the south side of the Little Kanawha River, just above the mouth of Walker's Creek in the area of Butcher's Bend, (Mineral Wells, W.Va.) It was home to the Hon. Edwin Samuel Butcher, born June, 17, 1820. Mr. Butcher's parents Thomas Butcher and Susan Peadro Butcher came from near Leesburg, Loudon County, Virginia, to Randolph County, W. Va., and from there they settled in Wood County W. Va.  on what has ever since been called "Butcher's Bend"
When the oil boom began at Burning Springs, ( Wirt County, W.Va.)  he built a large store and hotel on the Parkersburg and Elizabeth Pike, midway between Parkersburg and oil country. Here he did a large business, it being the only store between Parkersburg, W. Va. and Elizabeth, W. Va.
E.S. Butcher was known for his hospitality and generosity and for his activity in the communities that surrounded him, Mr. Butcher died in 1913.
