The Future of the Blues

picture of Canned Heat's album - Future BluesWhat is the future of the Blues? Only time will tell. One thing's for certain, the future looks bright. Blues is strong. Historical. Profitable. Addicting. The Blues is everywhere. Worldwide. In nightclubs. Recordings. The Internet. Satellite radio. Twenty-four hour cable music channels. The Blues is here to stay. What began as the Blues has now evolved into other music genres. Rhythm and blues, rock, rock and roll. Rock blues. Many others. Black artists playing the Blues are proud instead of embarassed.

A unique culture centered around the Blues has been recognized and appreciated. A culture all its own. From the Mississippi Delta to New Orleans. Texas. Chicaco. The West coast of the United States. Blues, baby. Blues.

Sacred steel blues with peddle steel guitars, still another tool of the Blues. Is this where the Blues is headed? Again, only time will tell. But, it's going to be exciting. Stay tuned..

One wave of the future maybe technology. MP3 music makes it possible for computers to get involved in the Blues. Although a computer can put no feeling into the Blues, it can now create some. Plus, gigabytes of the Blues can be carried around to be listened to at the whim of the carrier. Wow!

Can the mix between techno dancing and the Blues unfold? Experimenting has already taken place. By the way, who's Moby? How 'bout the Blues and hip hop?

Whatever the future is, it's exciting. The Blues will grow, that's for sure. But, whatever the future is, support the PBS series, The Blues. Buy the CDs, etc. I did. Watch it over and over again. And, by all means, support public broadcasting.

Thank you...

Bye!
