Career development is the process through which an individual
comes to understand their interests, knowledge, skills, and
aspirations and begins to make informed career decisions.
This lifelong process involves knowing oneself, considering
personal   goals, studying the world of work, being a good

problem solver and decision maker, and creating an open-ended

career plan.  The better you understand yourself, the
greater the chance of selecting a career that
matches your abilities and fulfills your dreams.

Portfolios provide evidence of knowledge and experience that you have met the standards
set forth in this unit.  Portfolios become a  demonstration of your growing professional
competence.  Your work can be organized and referenced for information as you continue in
the iterative process of career planning.

1)  You will create two Career Planning Portfolios (CPP).  Three sections in each CPP need to

be labeled: Assessment Skills, Investigation Skills, and Management Skills.

One  portfolio will be a 3 ring notebook with copies

of the work you create.  The other portfolio

will be in a digital format saved to disks or

the network server.

The final digital portfolio will be burned to a CD -Rom or DVD at the completion of  the unit.

Throughout the project save information  in both forms whenever possible.

2)  Self-assessments focus on your own skills, interests,  and aptitudes and how they relate to

work.   Survey the wide variety of assessment available on the Resources  for Assessment Skills.

Select and complete a minimum of 3 of the Internet based assessments.  Collect as many of the

other assessments from your school guidance counselor as you possibly can.  Place the results

of the assessments in the Assessment Skills Sections of the CPPs.

3) Analyze all the assessments you have gathered by answering the following critical thinking

questions.  Write the report using word processing software.  Label  it “Assessments

Analysis - Critical Thinking Journal".  Place  it in the Assessment Skills Sections of the CPPs.
