| July 26 Vermont is to New Hampshire as Left is to Right Greetings. I assume that Tips is now hiking in the Granite State, as he was just a few days from the VT/NH border when he phoned from The Inn at Long Trail in VT last Monday. He sounded a little groggy as he had spent the night sleeping on the floor of a room in the Inn after partying with re-aquainted fellow thru-hikers Mouth, Pied Piper and Pigpen. The Inn is located where the AT and Long Trail meet, and in fact share the same path for some miles. The Long Trail is a footpath that stretches the entire length of Vermont, from Massachusetts to Canada. It is also the name of a tasty ale. Tips has been taking it really slow for his standards, with three zero days since Mt Greylock in Mass. Cal, Jean and Dad had met with Paul in Bennington, VT a couple of weekends ago, which thrilled the friend and family deprived mountain man. Another meeting with the fam is scheduled for this weekend, and I plan to meet with Tips the first weekend in August. It seems as though the end of Paul's adventure is getting close, but he told me that it can take up to a month just to complete Maine's portion of the AT. Paul should be calling again soon, I hope the mountains provided some relief from the humid heatwave that we just experienced here in the northeast. I will be sure to get a full report from the parental units when I meet with them next week for dinner. Sorry for my lack of attention to this site as of late, but the sun is shining, and the weather is sweet. Todd |
