Adoption Procedures
While PBGVs are generally very adaptable dogs, those available for placement through PBGV Lifeline may have some very special needs that will have to be met by their new adoptive families. In the best interests of the dogs it is, therefore, necessary for prospective adopters to undergo a pre-adoption "screening" process to ensure that a PBGV will fit comfortably into your home and will be compatible with your activity level and lifestyle. Anyone wishing to adopt a dog from PBGV Lifeline should be prepared to do the following: 1. Complete an official PBGV Lifeline adoption application. 2. Allow us to stop in for a "home visit." This is to ensure that the dog's new home is safe and free of any potential health hazards. Some adopters may be first-time dog owners who may not know as well as we do how to dog-proof their homes and yards. We don't intend to pry into the private lives of our adopters; we just want to know that there is ample shelter for your new dog and that fences are high enough and secure enough to be "escape proof." There are many things within a home which could pose a health risk to a dog of which the prospective owner might not be aware. Landscaping often contains poisonous plants that would place a dog at risk. Deadly substances (such as antifreeze) on the surfaces of garage floors or driveways can also endanger a dog's health. 3. Provide written permission for the adoption from your landlord if you are a renter. 4. Agree never to abuse the dog by using physical aggression, through emotional neglect, or by withholding food, water, or veterinary care. 5. Agree never to chain the dog or allow the dog to ride loose in any uncovered vehicle (i.e., the bed of pickup trucks, convertibles, etc.). 6. Agree to provide the dog with a loving, permanent home with in-house sleeping privileges, a balanced diet, necessary grooming, as well as all necessary veterinary care. 7. Agree to license the dog as required by the city/county/state in which you reside and to keep identifying tags on the dog at all times, including your name, address and phone number. 8. Agree to notify PBGV LIfeline immediately should your adopted dog become lost. 9. Agree that the animal will not be bred, used in dog fighting, or used for any guard or attack purposes. 10. Agree to have the dog altered if this has not already been done. 11. Agree not to give or sell the dog to any other person, company or organization, research facility, or shelter. Must also agree that this dog will never be placed at auction. 12. Agree to surrender the dog to PBGV Lifeline should any terms of the adoption contract be breached. 13. Agree that at any time during the dog's lifetime, if the adoptive owner is unable to keep the dog, it will be returned to PBGV Lifeline (see "Return to Rescue" clause in the adoption contract).
SPAY/NEUTER POLICY
In the great majority of cases, the dogs we place are already spayed or neutered (surgically altered to prevent reproduction). Sometimes extenuating circumstances prevent a dog from being altered prior to placement. In this event, the new owner will be asked to pay a spay/neuter deposit and sign an agreement taking responsibility for having the dog spayed or neutered by a specific date. Upon written certification of spaying/neutering by a licensed veterinarian, the spay/neuter deposit will be returned to the adopter. In the event the surgical alteration does not take place as agreed, the deposit is forfeited, the contract has suffered a material breach, and the adopter will be required to return the dog to PBGV Lifeline, at his/her own expense.
I agree to the above conditions. Take me to the adoption application! |
