Thats it youre dead! he growled as my fist caught his cheek.
I shrieked and ran across the room to get away from him. He was holding his weapon high above his head as he charged around after me. Stop it, go away! I panted as he gained speed, chasing me up the stairs. Matt help me out here man! Charlie called to our brother who was sitting peacefully in his bedroom reading a magazine. Matt grinned cheekily and picked up a pillow, holding it high above his head just like Charlie was. Guys stop! I pleaded breathlessly and swung open the door to my bedroom, slamming it shut behind me. Stef thats my room too! Charlie yelled through the door of our shared bedroom. I slid down the door and caught my breath. This was the way it always was in the Simpson household, My twin brother, Charlie, would start a fake fight with me and couldnt take it when I started to win so would get our older brother Matt to gang up with him against me until I surrendered or called mum. My names Stef Rose Simpson, I am sixteen years old and have a twin brother called Charlie and an older brother, Matt, whos seventeen. We all usually get along okay but as Im the only girl in the family I often find myself the victim of discrimination or worseloneliness. Charlies best friend, James, is over at our house so much I often wonder why he doesnt just move in, mind you if he did he would probably make me move out of my room so that he could share with Charlie! James is like a brother to me, always has been. He is every bit as annoying, cruel, immature and pathetic as my other brothers, he is also every bit as protective, loving and affectionate as my other brothers. Whenever Jamess round the three boys gang up on me and take control of everything from the bedrooms to the TV channel we watch. Sometimes Im allowed to go out with them when they meet up with their friends to go to the cinema or something but I am never allowed to date any of their friends, none of them are good enough for meCharlie would rather die than watch me go out with one of the lads hes mates with. That night as I lay on my bottom bunk staring at the small dip in the upper bunk I couldnt help but wonder, why would Charlie hang around with guys that are so awful he wouldnt trust them around me? Hey Stefyou awake? Charlie called quietly down to me from the top bunk. Ah huh. I replied and sat up slowly, prodding on the lump above me to let him know that I was properly awake not just groaning in my sleep. Sorry I slammed the door on your fingers this afternoon. He whispered sincerely. I sighed and climbed half way up the ladder so that I could see him, Sokay, it didnt break just bruised a little. I was used to being hit, kicked, punched and beaten by my brothers. Charlie opened up the blanket and helped me in next to him; we stared up at the ceiling in silence for a few minutes, Hey Stef, you gonna come with us to Kians birthday party tomorrow night then? Yeah I guess, James said there would be beer! I laughed and rested my head on his chest, snuggling in to his warm body. If you get rat-arsed Ill kill ya! he mumbled truthfully and started to fiddle with my hair like he always did when we fell asleep together (mum says he did that even when we were little). Why dont you want me going out with any of your mates? I blurted without thinking. Because they are all a bunch of useless goons who you are way too good for. He answered matter-of-factly. All of them? Yes. Even JB? Jamess different isnt he, you wouldnt wanna go out with him, it would practically be incest! I giggled softly and shut my eyes contently, Can I invite Nats to Kis party? Charlie nodded silently; knowing that I would refuse to go if my best mate Nats couldnt go. Nats was my only real girl friend; our parents had always been friends so it was obvious that we would become friends too. No girls at school would go near me as I was always surrounded by a huge group of older lads, and the ones who did try and befriend me were only trying to get closer to Charlie or one of his friends. As soon as one of them found out, they would make that poor girls life a misery until she left me alone. As I said before, the guys were very protective over me, if anything hurt me they would stop at nothing to seek revengethis turned out to be the blessing that would one day kill me. Thats it youre dead! he growled as my fist caught his cheek.
