Leave it, Oww! screamed Sandy, as she ran along the school corridor, some guys were chucking food at her, third day running. She knew her dad would kill her if she had tomato all up her uniform again.
Sandy had always been bullied, there was nothing wrong with the way she looked, she was quite pretty really, she had short, dark blonde hair, and shiny blue eyes, but they always looked dull, it probably had something to do with the fact that she was never happy. The reason kids bullied her was simple, she was from America, she had moved to London with her dad when she was 12, and had now lived in London for 4 years, she was dyslexic and also had a condition which meant she couldnt digest food very well, making her throw up most the times she ate anything, she took about 3 pills a day to help her digest what she ate, and keep her energy levels up, she took this well, but the other kids took the piss, there were certain things she couldnt eat, which she loved, chocolate wasnt recommended, as it made her sick, and also some drinks, also she couldnt join in with sports if she had just eaten, or drunk anything. Crap, sandy said to herself, legging it into the girls loos and violently throwing up, she looked in the mirror, the colour had drained her face, and she felt so ill. She had one lesson to go, that was it, and then she could get home, not that it was any better there. Her dad had recently got himself a new girlfriend, and she totally had it in for Sandy, she had over heard her dad and this woman talking and she had said Sandy was a lot of trouble for a kid, and he should consider having her adopted, her dad had downrightly disagreed, Sandy was the only family he had left. Come on Sandy, yelled a teacher. Sandy came out the toilets, kids were sniggering at her. Sorry miss, Sandy said, quietly. Are you ok? asked the teacher, she nodded and sat down in the classroom. Thanks a lot Sandy, making yourself puke so we get in trouble, said Alex, the tough boy of the class. She ignored him. Well get you after school though, dont you think you will get away with it, said Pete, another boy. As the bell went Sandy grabbed her bag and legged it out the gate, and all the way home, as she reached the end of her road she stopped for breathe. She began to feel dizzy, but ignored it and carried on walking. She reached her front door and unlocked it; she shut the door and went into he kitchen. Hello Lizzy, she said politely to her Dads girlfriend, who was cooking tea. Your Dad isnt going to be happy, what is this all over your uniform, that was clean on this morning, Lizzy asked, looking at the mayonnaise all down the side of her sweater. Oh I dropped my food, my fault, Ill wash it, Sandy said, taking it off. Rightoh yes we have visitors later, new people have moved in next door, we have invited them round for a coffee, you are to say hello then go into your room and not make another appearance for the rest of the evening, said Lizzy. Ok, Sandy nodded, it was almost like she was ashamed of her, not letting her stay downstairs, not that she cared, shed rather spend all evening in her room, than with Lizzy. At about 7:30 there was a knock at the door. Sandys dad Ian went and opened it. You must be Mr and Mrs Willis, Lizzy my fianc told me she had invited you round, do come in, he smiled. Do you mind if we bring our son, I dont trust him in the house on his own, said Mrs Willis. Of course he can, said Ian. Dad, since when have you and Lizzy began Sandy, wondering when the hell Lizzy and her dad had got engaged. Oh yes, this is my daughter, Sandy, maybe shell talk to your son, they must be about the same age, said Ian. Dad, thats not a good idea, if hes joining the local comp, you know what they think of me, hell think the same, everyone who is normal does, I dont want to make friends, especially if Lizzy puts you up to it, remember Christina, nightmare, said Sandy, stepping back. Im sorry, she is a little shy when it come to meeting new people, and its hard on her at the moment, she misses her mum, said Ian. Im not shy and I dont miss mum, said Sandy, running up to her room. Sandy, called Lizzy coming out, I tell you that child, Dont be to hard on her, said Ian, Come on, Ill take you to her room, shell be ok, He walked the boy upstairs and knocked on Sandys door. Go away, I dont miss mum, she yelled, turning on some music. Her dad opened her door, Please just be nice Sandy, he doesnt want to sit with adults, See we have nothing in common already, its not that I dont want to, its that Im not aloud, Lizzy told me I had to stay up here, Sandy said. Be nice Sandy, her dad said, walking out, leaving the boy standing there. I erIm Matt, he said, Sandy looked up at him, he had bleached hair and a Foo fighters t-shirt. You like the foos? she asked, he nodded. Me too, she said. He glanced around her room; there were lots of posters, of various bands, and tonnes of CDs in many racks around the room. You like music huh? he smiled, she nodded. Matt started to feel uncomfortable, Sandy wasnt talking, she suddenly went very pale, and looked at him, then got up, before having to sit down again. Are you ok? he asked. Yeahjust get dad, and quick, tell him I need a bowl and two of the pink pills, go, she yelled, Matt ran downstairs, her dad came up Matt followed. Sandy are you ok? he asked. I threw up at school today, Lewis, and his mates chased me and them said they were gonna get me, they know it makes me sick, I had just had a sandwich, they were chucking chocolate at me, I wasnt gonna say dad, but I have to, Im not gonna get better if I dont do anything about it, she explained. Sandy, Ill talk to your teacher, well get this sorted out, he said, Matt stood in the doorway; Sandy took the pills and looked a lot better. Can I have a drink dad? she asked, looking at her watch. Yeah, Ill bring you one up, you want one Matt? he asked. Yes please, Matt nodded. Thanks for getting him Matt, Sandy smiled. What happened? asked Matt, looking at her. I have a condition, I cant digest food, I can eat it, but it wont stay down, I have to take medication and stuff, I hate it, she explained. Oh right, Matt said, sitting down. Thats why they take the piss, because I chuck up what I eat, and cant spell to save my life, Sandy said, looking down. Hey Im pretty shit at spelling, but it dont mean people should take the piss, he said, So what are you into? Music, heavy stuff, I can play Bass, keyboard, and I sometimes write songs, I also like friends, she smiled. I like music, I can play bass too, and I am in a band, but they live quick far away now, he said. So are you joining to local comp? she asked. Yeah, Im gonna be in class 11sg, he said. Hey thats my classdont trust Daniel, hell get you in so much trouble you wouldnt believe, she laughed. Lizzys high-pitched laugh came from downstairs. I hate her, she whispered, She wants dad to get me adopted, and tells him all these lies about me, and you know he said she was his fianc, well thats the first Ive heard of it, I dont want her as a mum, Thats not fare they should have told you, he said. I know, said Sandy. Matt, were going, called his mum. Bye, he smiled; Sandy gave him a little wave. He ran downstairs and went back to his house, as he sat in his new room he worked out that it backed on the Sandys room, he tapped on it lightly. Sandy heard the tap, she thought for a moment and tapped back, he laughed and tapped again, sure enough she tapped back, wicked he said to himself. The next morning Sandy left for school. Sandy, you escaped us last night, Lewis, came up behind her, putting his arm round her casually, this always scared her, she knew she couldnt trust him. Yeah, well I had to go home, family crises, she lied. What happened? he asked. Not much, she said, pushing his arm off and walking into her classroom. Ahh, Sandy, this is Matt, he will be joining this class today, said Mrs Acres, her teacher. Hey, she said quietly. Hey, he replied. Watchya Sandra Dee, laughed Pete, coming into the room with a crowd off boys, Oooh, new kid, dont feel left out Sandy, well still pick on you, maybe he could help, yeah a new crew member, jump aboard mate, Calm down Peter, said the teacher, Right Matt, you can sit in front of Sandy, Matt nodded and sat down, he spun round and smiled at her, You all right? he asked with concern. Yeahwas it you knocking on the wall last night? she laughed. Yeah, my room back onto yours, he smiled. Matt this is your first day lets not get off to a bad start, so turn round and stop talking, said Mrs Acres. Ok I want you to pair up, we are doing presentations on the dangers of smoking, lung damage etc, she began, Sandy go with Matt as hes missed out on this, also I wanted to say your project on drugs, was excellent, Yes miss, and thanks, Sandy got up and sat next to Matt, there was sniggering coming from round the class. You wanna write? she asked him. Nah you do it, he smiled, she began to write, then stopped, Disease, how do you spell it? D I s e a s e, spelt out Matt. Ok, god am I hopeless, she laughed. At break the bell went and Sandy got up. Can I hang with you? Matt asked. You dont have to, she said. I want to, he smiled. There she is, get her, yelled Lewis, a gang of boys ran down the hall, ready with food to lob at her. Yeah you want to hang with me, youve got to be a fast runner, she legged it down the hall, straight into the girls loos, leaving Matt outside. She went into the loo and puked, then cleaned herself up and took some pills, before going back out. They gone? she asked. Yeah they gave upyou shouldnt let them get away with that, he said. I dont have much choice do I? she said, walking down the hall. At the end of the day the bell went, as usual Sandy legged it out the gates, this time Matt caught up with her. Sandy, he said, clearly out of breath. Yeah? she asked. You want to come round mine for tea, he laughed, You wont have to go home to Lizzy, Wont your mum mind? she asked. Nah, he smiled, putting his arm round her and walking her to his place. You know, youre the first friend Ive had in four years of living here, she smiled. Really, I cant believe that, Matt said, as they went into his house, Mum Im back, is it ok for Sandy to stay for tea? Yeah sure, but she had better ask her dad first, you can use the phone, Sandy rang home and her dad said yes. Come on, we can go hang upstairs, Matt smiled, running upstairs and into his room, he leapt on the bed and Sandy sat next to him. Cool room, sandy said, looking round, it was quite empty, but there was a CD player and lots of CDs. Do you like playstation? he asked. Yeah, she grinned. I have one, he opened a cupboard to reveal a TV and playstation. Wicked, they played on the playstation for about an hour then his mum called them down for tea. Sandy sat at the table and looked at the food. You ok? asked his mum. Yeah, I just dont have any of my medication left, I can eat this, but I have to sit still for half hour after so I can digest it, she explained. Matt looked up at her, Chocolate ice cream for pudding, he grinned. Oh sorry, I must sound awkward, but I cant eat chocolate, its really bad for me, she said. Wow, you do so good sticking to what the doctors tell you, said his mum, Its ok, weve got yoghurts and stuff, Thank you, smiled Sandy. So where about in America do you come from? asked Matt, as they ate. New York, we lived in an apartment block, it was massive, she said. Cool, said Matt. Then Mum left us, she said she didnt love dad anymore and that she didnt love me and left, it hurt but now I dont care, I just need my dad, hes like my hero, I look up to him so much, I just wish he didnt have to live with that wench, said Sandy. Im sure she isnt that bad, said Matts mum, taking their plates. She hates me, said Sandy. Now thats just not true, she was telling me about your birthday last year, they took you to see your friends in America, said Mrs Willis. Only coz Dad said it would be nice, I would have preferred a new CD player, I hate flying, Im not ungrateful it was a nice idea, but I wish he could make up his mind, I know he wants to live in America, but his job is here, said Sandy. At about 7:00 Matt walked Sandy to her front door. Thanks Matt, she grinned. Hey anytime, he gave her a quick hug, then went back. Oh Sandy your home, we have some news for youLizzys pregnant, said Ian. She whatbut you cant be, exclaimed Sandy. Its true, your gonna have a little sister, smiled Lizzy. I dont want a sister, I just want my dad, and for it to be the way it used to be, just us two, then she came along and ruined everything, I heard you two, when she said she wanted me adopted, do you realise how that made me feel! yelled Sandy, breaking into tears. How dare you speak about Lizzy like that, yelled her dad, Go to your room, No, Sandy ran out the house and knocked on Matts door. He answered, Back so soon, he laughed, then noticed she was crying. Whats up? he asked, dragging her inside and sitting her on the bottom step. He only went and knocked her up, the bitch is fukin pregnant, I cant believe it, she cried. Oh Sandy, he hugged her really close. Where are your parents? she asked. Theyve gone out for the night, he said, Come on Ill make you a drink, They sat on the sofa; she cuddled up close to him sniffling now and again. You smell nice, she said quietly, putting her face up to his warm body. Thanks, FCUK number 2, he smiled, and then kissed her forehead. Can I stay here with you, I cant face going back yet, she asked. Sure you can, he smiled. Sandy felt so comfortable with Matt, she had never got this close to any boy before, but she really liked him, he was a great friend. There was a ring at the door, Matt got up and answered it. Sandy, her dad walked into the house. Dad, I dont want you and Lizzy to get married, its all ok for you, but did you ask me what I wanted, how can I even live in the same house as her, she hates me, said Sandy. She doesnt hate you, and where will you go if you dont stay at home? he asked. Well theres two options really, you could either put me up for adoption, or Ill go to America and live with Nan, said Sandy. No, youre my daughter, I would never put you up for adoption, even if Lizzy tried to make me, no woman is worth that much, he said, hugging her. I just want it back how it used to be, just us two, we used to have fun, order pizzas and stuff, but now we cant do any of the fun stuff, because of Lizzy, and now it will be even worse because there will be a baby to look after, I will get fazed out and soon youll forget I even exist, because you and Lizzy will be too wrapped up with your new kid to even notice me, she said. I would never faze you out, youre my only family and I love you, he said. Can I stay here with Matt for the night? she asked. I dont think I like that idea too much, said Ian. Please dad, you should be happy I have a friend, said Sandy. Fine, but make sure you get up in time for school, said her dad, Ill bring you round your uniform and PJs, Er dad, shorts and t shirt, I chucked out those things that Lizzy got me, laughed Sandy, her dad got her things and dropped them off. Mum will be home tomorrow lunch time, so I had better go to bed, if we are gonna get ourselves up tomorrow, said Matt. Ok, shall I have the sofa? she asked. No, have the bed, Ill have the sofa, Sandy ran upstairs and put on her shorts and t-shirt for bed. Night Matt, she said, coming into the lounge, he was sat in his boxers, on the sofa. Night Sandy, he smiled, getting up and giving her a kiss on the cheek, she ran upstairs and got into bed, and fell straight asleep. Sandy, Matt shook her gently awake the next morning. What? she asked. Er school, he laughed, chucking uniform at her. Oh do I have to go, all Im gonna get is another day of torture from those guys, she moaned. Well while youre in this house youre my responsibility and I have to make sure you get to school, he said, Nice bra, he picked her black bra off the floor and chucked it at her. Hey, she laughed, running at him, he ran round the room as she chased, him suddenly leaping on his back and they fell onto the bed. They came head to head, and looked into each others eyes for about five minutes breathing deeply. We are going to be late for school, said Matt, sitting up. Yeah, Sandy got up and went into the bathroom to get changed while Matt used the bedroom. They went into school and sat down in class, this time Matt sat next to Sandy, they were laughing all lessons, while doing their work. The bell rang at break and as Sandy stepped outside Lewis grabbed her by the back of her collar. Hey get off, she screamed. Errno, he laughed evilly Hey get off her, yelled Matt, coming up behind him and grabbing his arms. Pete, get this pussy off me, yelled Lewis, a groups of guys came up behind Matt and pulled him off Lewis, as he pushed Sandy to the ground and began to kick her stomach. Lets see if you do it on purpose and are an anorexic cow, or is it really as you claim, yelled Lewis, he kicked her again. Matt, she screamed, as she clenched her stomach. Oi, get up, yelled Lewis, she stumbled up, and clasped her stomach, looking very pale, Eat this, Lewis stuffed a mars bar at her face. No, she said shaking her head. Eat it, he said again, Matt tried to get to her, but was pulled back. Sandy slowly put it in her mouth and ate it; she could feel it bubbling inside her. Lewis grabbed her and pulled her hair, swallow it, he snarled. She gulped, and then he let go, and took out some sandwiches. You know exactly what Im gonna do now right? he asked, a few other boys took out food. She nodded, but didnt move, he pushed her forward and she began to run. Lewis pushed her to the ground and kicked her again, this time she threw up violently, you could tell she was scared, she kept repeatedly throwing up until she couldnt throw up anything else, a teacher ran outside and saw what was going on. What have you done to her? she screamed at Lewis, more teachers came out, the school nurse took Sandy inside and the other boys were taken to the heads office. Ok how are you feeling Sandy? asked the nurse. Better, I just want to see Matt, she said. Im here, he came into the room. Ill leave you two alone a second, smiled the nurse. Sorry I couldnt stop them, Matt said sitting down next to her. No Im sorry I got you involved, she said. Come here, he hugged her really close. You still smell nice, she muttered. Matt laughed slightly, You too, what perfume is that? Intuition, it was my big sisters, she said. You have a big sister? Matt asked. Did have, she died in a car crash two years ago, with her boyfriend, they were coming back from a date, went in a ditch, she sniffed. I had no idea, Matt said. Well I got a lot of her old stuff, she never failed to get a guy with this perfume, I got some of her clothes too, and I miss her, she was like my idol, I looked up to her, she said, Look, She showed Matt a locket, inside was a picture of a young women of about 18, Thats her, she was nearly 19, it was taken the day before she died Well its really nice perfume, you look just like her, Matt smiled, looking at the picture. No I dont, she was so pretty, she had the best features, I could never compare to that, Im short, skinny and ugly, she said, She was so pretty, she used to give me make overs when we were kids, she wanted so bad to be a model, we used to put on little fashion shows, Youre not ugly, youre beautiful, said Matt. Yeah, laughed Sandy. Yeah, Matt put his and to her face, You have a gorgeous smile, and when you smile your bright blue eyes sparkle, and you have the softest skin, he said, stroking her skin. Sandy put her hand on his as he traced her skin, he leant in and kissed her gently, he went to kiss her more passionately, but she pulled back. I wouldnt do that, remember I just chucked up everything Ive eaten in the last 12 hours, she said. Sorry, he smiled, the school bell went and they went home. As they reached their houses, Matt turned round and hugged her really tight. Youre really special, and dont let anyone make you think any different, he said gently. Ok Matt, she smiled, and then went in. Hi Matt luv, nice day at schoolwhat on earth happened to your arm? his mum caught sight of a massive bruise, where he had been pulled back. Oh I got into a bit of a fight with some guys, they werent being very nice to Sandy, he said, pulling his sleeve down. Well try not to fight, it isnt nice, she said, brushing his hair straight, with her hand. Mum, he moaned, moving away. Hey youre still my son and I care a lot about you, I dont want you fighting, she said, Now change into some other clothes, and put your school things in the wash, then Id like you to take this next door, we borrowed it earlier, she handed him a paint roller. Ok, if Im aloud can I hang with Sandy for a bit, he asked. Yes if her dad and Lizzy dont mind, said Mrs Willis. Matt put on some baggys and a hoodie, and then walked next door. Hello Matt, smiled Lizzy, opening the door. Hi, heres the paint roller, from mum, and I was wondering if I could see Sandy for a bit, he asked politely. One minute, Lizzy went to the foot of the stairs, Sandy visitor! What? Sandy came downstairs, she was wearing some jeans and a T-shirt, which had, had the bottom torn off, so it showed her stomach, and hanging loosely off her hips was a leather belt with sliver studs in, very rock chick. She smiled when she saw Matt. Hey, he grinned. Sandy, what have I told you, I dont like you wearing that top, it looks like youve hacked at it with a pair of shears, moaned Lizzy. Actually scissors, but you know, I guess shears on a smaller scale, smirked Sandy. Dont speak to me like that young lady, threatened Lizzy. Ill speak to you how I like, your not my mum yet, and as far as Im concerned you never will be, so dont tell me what I can and cant wear, and never, ever call me young lady again, coz Ill rip your throat out, said Sandy, Come on Matt, they walked out the door. What do you want to do, asked Matt, half looking at her skimpy top. Hang out down Baylands Park? suggested Sandy. Sure, grinned Matt, taking her hand. They walked through the park on a massive field behind it, they sat down under a goal post, Sandy lay back and looked into the sky, she was deep in thought. What you thinking about? asked Matt. Home, my first family holiday, Mum, Dad, Me and Lea, all went to Florida for two weeks, it was amazing, we spent everyday on the beach, and Lea and me played volley ball, I sucked at it, but I was only 6, it was so much fun, I wish I still had Lea, she wouldnt let those guys get away with treating me like that, shed say something like, silly bastards dont wanna mess with my little sister, or theyll have to face me, and yeah she could get pretty nasty, explained Sandy. You miss her loads dont you? said Matt. She was my best mate, my only mate, she found it so easy to make friends, really out going, but she always found time for her little sis, she was great, shed like you, I know it, she was awesome, smiled Sandy, looking round at Matt. Matt thought she looked slightly upset, so he decided to lighten the mood. Ok then, tell me who you fancy, as in famous, he grinned. No way, youll laugh, she said. Ill tell you who I like, he grinned. FineJoel Madden and Joe Morgan, she laughed. RightI like Tara Reid, but only like, he said. Blonde tart, coughed Sandy. You what, said Matt. Nothing, giggled Sandy, sitting up. You called her a Blonde tart, Ill get you for that, he smirked. No you wont, laughed Sandy, about to jump up, when Matt pulled her down, she tried to push him off, but he held her down firmly. She couldnt stop giggling. She eventually pushed him off and rolled on top of him. They were both laughing so much. He rolled her off him and then lay on his stomach next to her, he kissed her lightly on the lips, enough to make her shiver. They just looked at each other for a few seconds before Sandy smiled very slightly, Matt smiled back and they began laughing again. Ooohhh, Matt and Sandy sittin in a tree, A group of girls from their class stood on the path, giggling. They tried to ignore them. How rude, you know theyre made for each other, just as bad as each other, look at her what does she look like, laughed one girl. Matt looked as if he wanted to say something, but Sandy shook her head. Dont know what he sees in her, the skank, said a blonde tart. I dont know what she sees in him, punks are such dipshits most of them are on drugs, its pretty obvious hes a stoner, laughed another. Right thats it, steamed Matt. Matt no, Sandy pulled him down, and kissed him full on, she knew she had to, just to stop him killing the girls, and getting himself in trouble. Eww, yuk, that is wrong, squealed one of the girls, Matt pulled back and looked at her, she looked as shocked as him at what she had just done. The girls walked off, leaving them alone. Sorry, Sandy muttered quietly, still lying back on the grass. Dont be sorry, said Matt, placing his hand gently on her bare waist, she giggled slightly, What? Youve got cold hands, she said. They got up and walked back, as Matt and Sandy entered Sandys house, Ian stormed out of the lounge. Do you realise how much youve upset Lizzy, she was in there crying, she just wants to look out for you, yelled her dad. Why cant I wear this? Sandy asked looking down. Because its sluty, especially when your hanging around with a boy, Im not speaking bad of Matt, but I have been a teenage boy and you dont want to know the ideas that get into their heads, he said. Dad! said Sandy embarrassed. Sandy end of conversation, I want you to do as Lizzy and I tell you, and now I am telling you that you are groundedfor one week, Matt you should go, said Ian. See ya Sandy, he said, before walking out. God dad, you are so embarrassing, that couldnt have waited could it, she yelled. I dont want Matt getting any ideas, said her dad. He wont, hes my friend, she said. Your Dad has a point Sandy, said Lizzy. Whats it got to do with you, for the last 4 years youve been wanting me to get a friend, and now Ive got one and everything changes, Lea would have totally been on my side, she yelled. Dont bring your sister into this, yelled her dad, get to your room, Sandy walked upstairs and into her room. She heard a tap on the wall, but she couldnt be bothered to reply. The following morning, she woke up feeling really bad, she ran to the bathroom and puked a few times, then went downstairs, Lizzy was making breakfast. You look awful, she said, looking genuinely worried. Im fine, lied Sandy, not wanting to be kept off school, she couldnt stand a whole day of Lizzy. Im getting your dad, you look really pale, almost grey, said Lizzy running upstairs. Her dad came down and looked at her, he checked her temperature, then sat next to her. You boiling Sandy, are you sure youre feeling ok? he asked. Yeah, great, she attempted a smile. Well Im going to get the doctor to check you out anyway, he said, picking up the phone. Then he called the school telling them she wouldnt be in today. Dad Im fine, said Sandy as they got to the doctors. The doctor checked her over. Well, I dont care what you say, you are certainly not fine, you are running a temperature, and are dehydrated, I want you to stay in hospital for a couple of days, they will put you on a drip and get you better, said the doctor, making a call to the hospital to tell them that she was coming in. Later that day she lay in a hospital bed, watching some TV, basically bored. Hi Sandy, I brought you some magazines, kerrang and this other one I thought you might like, smiled Lizzy coming into the ward, she sat next to her. Thanks, muttered Sandy. Look Sandy, I know you and be have never really hit it off, but I think we should at least try and get along, for your dads sake, said Lizzy. Dunno, shrugged Sandy. Look I know Im not your mum, and wont act like one, if you dont want me too, but I know the things I said to your dad about adoption, but that was before I realised what a special girl you are, youre a teenager, your going to get in strops and be mouthy, but at least see me as a friend, sometimes you might need a woman to talk to, she said gently. Sandy looked at her, she looked really genuine, Do you love dad? Yes, with all my heart, she smiled. Then I guess I can try and get along, smiled Sandy. Thank you, and Im sorry about having a go at you yesterday, said Lizzy. Its ok, said Sandy, When is the baby due, this was the first time Sandy had asked about the baby. 6 months time, replied Lizzy. Im happy for you, and Ill help out as much as I can, its been a long time since dad had helped with a baby, so you might need a hand, said Sandy. Thank you Sandy, youre probably right there, laughed Lizzy. Lizzy gave Sandy a quick hug before getting up and leaving. Bye Lizzy, grinned Sandy. Sandy, came a voice about 10 minutes later. Matt, said a surprised Sandy. Your dad told mum you were in hospital, are you ok? he asked, sitting next to her. Yeah, just dehydrated, with a temperature, Ill be out tomorrow, she smiled. Thank god, I really worried, he said. Dont worry about me, Im used to this, she smiled. Well I cant stay, Im not supposed to be here, Im meant to be a football practise, mum made me join the team, he laughed. Poor you, well when I get out Ill come watch you play, she smirked. Cool, well Ill see ya, get better soon, he smiled, about to walk out. Hey, wheres my kiss? she asked. Here, Matt kissed her gently on the cheek and left the ward. The next afternoon at about two, Sandy was aloud home, she arrived home and Lizzy had made a coffee cake for her. As a treat for you, weve decided you can invite Matt round for the evening, you can watch a film off box office or something, smiled her dad, as she ate a slice, then took some medication. Wicked, can I go meet him from school? she asked. Sure, laughed Lizzy, watching her happy face. Sandy ran upstairs and into her room, she put on some cords, and a fitted black shirt. Then applied a bit of dark make up around her eyes to make them look bigger, she put some gloss on her lips and ran back downstairs. Ill see you later, she called; she walked towards the school and waited outside the gate. As the bell rang a few kids walked out, she saw Matt instantly; he was with some girl, chatting away, laughing and stuff. He looked up and saw Sandy sitting on the wall. Sandy! he yelled running over to her. Hey, grinned hugging him, she went to kiss him but he pulled back. You ok? she asked. Yeah, but I have introduce you to someone, he stepped back and grabbed the girl by the hand. Sandy this is Rebecca, my girlfriend of two days, Rebecca this is Sandy, sorry I should have told you at the hospital, he said. Oh right, well this is new, said Sandy, looking at the short brunette clinging to Matts arm happily. Yeah, said Matt. Well I just wanted to say hi, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight? she asked. Well I would but me and Becca are going out, sorry, some other time maybe? Matt said. Yeah maybe, well I gotta go, Lizzy is cooking dinner, she walked off; feeling totally humiliated, she thought Matt liked her. She walked inside and slammed the door. You ok love? asked her dad. Just fine, she said, walking upstairs she slumped on her bed and burst into tears. Dinners ready, called Lizzy. Coming, shouted Sandy, wiping her eyes. She walked downstairs and sat down at the table. At about 12 that night she was sitting on her bedroom floor. There was a faint tap at the wall. Sandy got up and lobbed her magic 8 ball right at the wall, causing one hell of a bang. Matt didnt knock again. The next morning was a Saturday, and Sandy got up late, she put on some jeans and a t-shirt, and went and sat watching TV in the lounge. Are you sure youre ok luv, have you and Matt had an argument? asked Ian. Im fine, actually I was thinking of mending your work bench in the shed, I have nothing better to do, she got up and went outside. At about 1 oclock Lizzy brought her out a drink. She sipped a bit then went back to sawing some new wood. Sandy, someone to see you, said Lizzy walking outside, Sandy looked up with a pencil in her mouth to see Matt standing there. Cant you see Im a little busy right now? she asked. Sandy thats rather rude, said Lizzy. Well its rather rude to disturb a talented carpententress at work, said Sandy. Well Ill leave you two to talk, said Lizzy. Butfine I guess it doesnt matter, she muttered, looking at the half completed workbench, then up at Matt. Sandy are you mad at me? he asked. Me madno, she said, beginning to hammer some wood together, missing and hitting her thumb, Aaaggghhh, now that hurt, stupid hammer, she chucked it across the garden. Because I kind of get this feeling you are, he said. Give me one good reason Id be mad at you, she said, not looking at him. I dunno, youve been all distant on me ever since yesterday afternoon, when I introduced you to Becca, he said. Well then its just me, I havent been well it effects my mood, she lied. I dont understand what Ive done wrong, he said. I dont understand what Ive done wrong but do I ask you about it, no, so just leave it ok Matt, she said. Well if thats the way youre gonna be then fine, he walked out. She carried on working on the workbench until it was finished, then walked inside. Ahh, Sandy, Mr and Mrs Willis have invited us round this evening, so if youd like to get changed then we can go, we are having some tea there, and drink, smiled her dad. Ok, muttered Sandy walking upstairs. She found some plain black trousers and a black strap top, with a glittery cobweb across it; she brushed her hair down and applied some make up then walked downstairs. Ready, smiled Lizzy. Yup, said Sandy. They went next door and Matt answered, he let them in then looked at Sandy but didnt say anything. As they ate the parents were chatting, Sandy and Matt kept quiet. So whats up kids, youve been silent all evening, asked Mrs Willis. Nothing, they said, and then looked at each other. Have you two had a fall out? asked Ian. Well I havent, but Sandy seems to think Ive done something wrong, said Matt, everyone looked at Sandy. What? That is not true, if you had any sense and memory at all youd know exactly what youve done to upset me, Sandy got up from the table and walked into the hall. Sandy, said Lizzy getting up and walking after her, Whats happened darling? she asked giving her a hug as tears fell down Sandys face. Lizzy how do you know when youre in love? asked Sandy looking at her. Im not sure how to explain it really, but you will knowhas this got anything to do with Matt? she asked. Sandy nodded and cried some more. Oh hunny whats happened? asked Lizzy. I dont want to talk about it, said Sandy. Well at least come and finish dinner, asked Lizzy, Sandy nodded and sat back down. So Sandy you got a boyfriend yet? asked Mrs Willis. No, I dont trust boys, they lie cheat, and are bastards really, she said, unfazed, Matt looked at her. How have I lied to you? he asked. Watch and learnDad do I look anything like Lea? she asked her dad. Well no, but you are still very special, but he trailed off. Lea was pretty, Im not, Lea was perfect in everyway, and could do no wrong, I dont remind you of her and resemble her in anyway, said Sandy. Well you were totally unalike, in looks and personality, but it doesnt mean I loved her more, and you are pretty, dont put yourself down darling? Ian said, confused at his daughters behaviour. Point proved, I remember when I was 8 and we were at the cabin in Canada, Aunt Kiesha said I was like the ugly sister, I took it and believed it, then suddenly one person comes into my life and for once I begin to think people were wrong, but now I know they were lying, and you have no idea how much it is hurting, sobbed Sandy. Sandy I never lied, said Matt. Yeah then explain Rebecca! yelled Sandy. Kids calm down, maybe you should sort this out on your own, said Ian. Fine, Matt got up and went to his room, Sandy followed. Thats what this is all about, because Ive got a girlfriend? exclaimed Matt. Not just that, said Sandy, looking down. Why then, because I really dont understand what Ive done, said Matt. I thoughtyou liked me, she said, looking at him. I do, he said. Then why Rebecca, do you have any idea how much it hurt, not only do you start dating someone, you give up on your mate, I felt so stupid, standing there outside school, and I wanted to hang out with you, and your going on a date, after everything you said to me, and what happened, explained Sandy. What? asked Matt. The kiss, I thought it meant something, you know that was my first kiss, I didnt know what I was doing, but I at least thought you felt the same way, all that has been going through my head, is what have I done that has made you do this to me? she asked. I didnt realise you felt that way, said Matt looking down. What the hell did you think I was doing then Matt, rolling about in a field with my best mate, that isnt how best mates treat each other Matt, I thought you would know that, she said. Im sorry Sandy, I just liked Becca ok, and I thought we had just been mucking about, I didnt think it was serious, he said. Yeah well you got that wrong, she yelled, sitting on the floor. Sandy, I dont know what t do, Matt said, sitting next to her. I love you Matt, thats why it hurts, she said, You said I was special, and not to let anyone make me think differently, I thought you meant you thought I was special to you, why else would you say that, and now I feel so stupid, I got it all wrong, its the first time in since Ive been here that someone has given me some attention and not just ignored me, and I go screw it up, I just want to curl up and die, You didnt screw up, said Matt simply, I screwed up, I screwed up big time, I never meant to hurt you, and I feel stupid for not seeing that you liked me that way, but I do think youre pretty, and special, I want to go home, sorry, maybe we can speak some other time, I just didnt really sleep last night, and I cant stay here looking at you any longer, she got up and walked out, her dad and Lizzy were just leaving. The following Monday, Sandy got up for school; she walked in the class and sat down. Matt came in and sat next to her, none of them said anything, and Sandy didnt even look at Matt. Ohhh, look at the lovebirds, Tilly saw you two getting off in the park, laughed Lewis. Rebecca dumped me, he said quietly so only Sandy could hear. What happened? asked Sandy. I told her I loved you, he said. Sandy looked at him, and he smiled slightly. I do, and I dont know what I was thinking, but I really love you, and I want you more than her, please forgive me, he said. Well Ill have to think about it, she teased. Sandy please, he more or less begged. Im only joking of course Ill forgive you, I love you, she said, kissing him on the cheek. Thank you, said Matt, kissing her full on. My pleasure, grinned Sandy. |
