Go Ask Malice (A Slayer's Diary) by ... some guy who's not Whedon. A big fat 'meh' for this one. Nice to finally get a little backstory on Faith, but the book leans toward the cliched. Not badly written, really, just ... I wanted more.

8/19/06 Snakes on a Plane
Hate, HATE, HATES snakes, but LOVED this movie. I loved that the producers, stars, hell, everyone involved in this movie got that it was b-grade cheese. The trick to GOOD cheese is to play it straight and this was perfectly done. Glad it wasn't in 3-D though.
8/6/06 The Descent
I dug Marshall's Dog Soldiers and this was miles better. Plenty of nice scares and a great atmosphere and set-up (the biggest cringes, for me, came from the travels through the caves. Nice sense of dread). Highly recommended.
RANT:
In the theatre where I saw this movie there were two young-ish guys and a little boy who had to have been four or younger. The father was too sorry to 1) FIND A SITTER or 2) WAIT TO SEE THE SCARY MOVIE so, for the first 45 minutes or so of the movie, there was a plaintive wail of "Daddy, I'm scared ..." from somewhere near the back of the auditorium. It's an R-rated movie. It's not appropriate for a four year old. Apparently the father wasn't mature enough to see it either.
7/24/06 Clerks II & My Super Ex-Girlfriend
Clerks II is still trying to grow on me. Parts of it were hysterically funny (Pillowpants. Hee.), parts of it were booooorrring. Kinda what I thought of the first movie. I need to give it another watch. If only for Jay's Jame Gumb homage. Goodbye to horses ...
Super Ex? Meh. Never really thought of Uma Thurman as a comedic actress, but she won me over (that petulant look she shoots through the restaurant window as she's huffing off to stop the missle? Price. Less.). Wanted to smack her character about 14 seconds after she was introduced, but I guess (hope?) that's what the film was going for. Luke Wilson was ... Luke Wilson. Only doughier. But I (HEART) Anna Faris. I adored the friendship between her character and Wilson's. And Rainn Wilson is a god.
7/17/06 Superman Returns & Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
I got chills a couple of times during Superman (and boy did the tear ducts well when they showed Mrs. Kent outside the hospital). Singer does the iconic very well. Routh surpassed all my (admittedly low) expectations. What a wonderful actor for the part. But, Kate Bosworth? You are no Lois Lane. And Parker Posey was underused.
My only (minor) complaint about PotC:DMC? Long. The effects were a little more frightening than I expected and probably not really for the kiddies. But Johnny Depp is (again) brilliant. And the ending has me already itching for number three.
7/2/06 Hard Candy
The two leads of this movie did some of the most astonishing acting I've seen in awhile. Ellen Page, for being all of 3' tall and 14 lbs. is terrifying. Very intense movie.
