Okinawa, Japan

During my stay in the army I was lucky enough to be assigned a duty station in Okinawa Japan. In my 3 years I made many friends military and locals (Ryukyns). Okinawa which is about 500 miles off the mainland has some of the most beautiful dive sites in the world. Outside of my usual martial arts training I was introduced to scuba one day while snorkeling and I've been hooked ever since. The underwater landscape and rich sea life left me with lasting memories of which I'll cherish forever.

The clown fish, moray eels and jellyfish left me in awe, not to mention Octopy and Sharks. I had a one brief encounter with sharks after a typhoon. Normally sharks are not common in that area. However, they were just as eager to get away from me as I was from them.

Sunabe Seawall

Sunabe Seawall is located just a few miles north of Naha, right across from Kadena Gate 1. Chosen by scuba instructors as an optimum training location, Sunabe has features that appeal to all divers regardless of their experience level. Sunabe Seawall is composed largely of limestone that gently slopes away from the seawall to form cracks, crevasses, and cliffs of all shapes and sizes. Depths range from just a few feet in the shallow cracks and pools to about 80 feet at the bottom. Among the soft coral, sand, and rocks compose the site's bottom. The small amount of silt present occasionally gets stirred up reducing visibility from the average 40-foot mark down to 3 - 4 feet.
