Art & Soul expanded all three days of Labor Day weekend! August 30, 31 & September 1, 2003.This was a celebration of cultural diversity at the City of Oakland's 3rd Annual Art & Soul with live rock, blues, jazz, gospel and more on five big stages, eclectic artisan booths, exotic international foods, a festive family fun zone, readings by acclaimed authors.

Ziggy Marley headlined the Plaza Stage on Sunday, August 31, presented by KFOG 104.5 FM. Openning for Ziggy Marley was the musical group Guster.

Judy Ann "Juday" Santos and Paolo MOntalban were two of the special guests at this weekend's 10th Anniversary of the Pistahan Parade an Festival in San Francisco. The parade kicked off a little late from the starting time of 12 noon (talk about Filipino time!) . The parade route from Spear and Market to Market St culminating at the Yerba Buena Center in downtown San Francisco was lined up by thousands of Filipino Americans who celebrated Filipino American pride and heritage , which is the purpose of the aanual pareade and festival.

Among rhe parade participants included San Francisco Mayor Honorable willi Brown, other Bay Area political luminaries including San Franciso mayoral candidates Gavin Newsom, Angela Alioto, Fiona Ma as well representatives of the California Democratric and Republican parties. The presence of the powerful political figures goes on to impart the importance of the vast California and San Francisco Bay Area Fil American vote power.

Overall the festival was a success judging from the large crowds of Fil Americans and Americans present this weekend. The festival has really grown from when it was first held back in 1993, to probably the biggest Filipino American cultural heritage festival and parade in Northern America.

Maraming salamat and Mabuhay!!!
