A Word From the President Chris C.

Greetings to Everyone!

My first question: When will spring be here? I really like winter but Im about done with it now. Im sure you all are, too. But, all this enforced inside time has produced some amazing quilting results, Im just sure of it! I cant wait to see what everyone has gotten done. Please bring your projects to show and tell so that we can all be inspired!

I know Ive said this before, but quilters are the best bunch of people I have ever met! I have never been comfortable speaking in front of groups but somehow you have all made me feel welcome and accepted just the way I am. Now, Im still unable to eat dinner before the guild meeting (Im just too excited to come and see you all, thats it!) but every time I get up and lead the meeting, you all make me feel way more comfortable than I ever could have imagined. Thanks to all of you!

As President, I have an unusual perspective to stand back and watch all the interactions in the guild meeting from the view of a bystander rather than a participant. It always warms my heart to see how welcoming you all are to brand new guild members and guests. That makes such a difference to the people who walk in the door not knowing a soul in the room. This guild has come a long way just since Ive been here (I joined in October 2000).

Within groups of women, there are always disagreements, and hurt feelings sometimes are the result. Within the guild, we all have a common love of quilting and fabrics. Its so nice to see that our common bonds bridge the occasional disagreements and help us to remember that misunderstandings pass and that friendship is what is so important within a guild. This guild has sprouted so many wonderful friendships; Id love to see all these friends continue on through thick and thin, moving across the country, and good times and bad. I truly believe this is one of the greatest gifts our guild gives back to us.

So, in conclusion, at the next guild meeting, look around you, and thank God for all of the wonderful friends youve met and try to reach out and meet someone new. You never know what beautiful friend you will find!

Saying Good-bye to One of Our Own

It is with great sadness that we have learned that one of our members, Sue S. (Susie), passed away on February 16th. Susie had many talents when it came to quilting and may be remembered best for the beautiful bargello quilts she brought to show & tell, and most recently the one that she donated to the monthly mini and was a huge success! When arrangements are made, I will e-mail everyone in my address book. If you would like to send a card to her husband & family, contact Kathy T. for the address.

Another Quilt Retreat?

February 2003 Quilt Retreat was a success! Plans are in the works for another retreat in the Fall.

Fabric Swap!

What do you do at a fabric swap? Well, first of all, bring material! Any cotton material (fat quarter or larger) that you think you can part with from your stash is acceptable. Fold it or roll it and tie it, then bring it on March 15th from 10 am - 2 pm where other ladies will have their prized material for you to look at, trade & barter. For every fat quarter you bring you will receive one ticket, a yard gets you four tickets, and so on. You can then pick out other fabrics to take home and add to your stash with your tickets. Hopefully, you will go home with a new batch of material that will fit nicely into your stash and you wont have paid a cent for it! What a deal!

Greeting/Membership Desk - Linda A.

Working the greeting desk is a very busy job and has many facets that need immediate attention constantly during the beginning of the meeting. There are many small details that must be accurately recorded and then there are all the hellos and how are ya's and welcomes that we love to distribute to all our quilting friends. And then we have had a wonderful influx of new members and guests that have become new members and all the questions those situations create. It is busy, fun packed and hectic, to say the least. I am enjoying it tremendously, but I could not do half the job I am nor get any of the information correct if I were doing it on my own. It is just too much for one person. So, to get down to the point, if it weren't for my good friend Dee B., I would be in a world of hurt right now. Because of her, my records are straight, everyone is getting a door prize ticket and no one has gotten missed being greeted. Thank you so much, Dee for being my friend; and for being such a wonderful, supporting, and helpful friend.

Clean Up Crew

I have recently learned that the Loffler Center requests that we return the room to its original condition after our guild meetings. At every meeting we always have to bring out additional tables and chairs to accommodate our 40 or more members at the guild meetings. You all have been great about pitching in and setting up what is needed. I thank you also, for helping take down the tables and chairs at the end of the meeting. It really helps not to have the same couple of people do all the work each time. Way to go!!!!!

Sunshine Committee Request

Doris B. is asking for donations of pink & red fabric to use for the Sunshine committee. If you have pieces of fabric 5" or larger, please bring them to any meeting. Doris will use this material to cut hearts to put in cards, etc. for Sunshine.

Thank you.

Raffle Quilts From the Community

At the next meeting, both the Waldorf guild and the Sotterley ladies will have their raffle quilts on display and will have raffle tickets available to purchase. You might want to bring a few extra dollars for a chance to win some beautiful quilts! Dont forget the Honeybees will have their stunning quilt on display, also, and their raffle will be at the Office on Aging Show in mid-March.We are so lucky to have these opportunities right at our own guild meeting!

Local Quilt Shows

The Office on Aging Quilt Show is March 15-16 at the Loffler Center. They are looking for quilts to be displayed. They will also be offering a quilt class Sunday evening from 4-9 p.m. at the conclusion of the show. The class is just $10 for Bonnet Girls. Please see Kit S. for details.

The Sotterley Show will be the weekend of May 16-18.They are taking entries in both quilted items and needlework. In the past, our guild has done a great job in donating time as white glovers for this show. The show runs from 10-4 each day and we will be taking sign-ups for white glove hostesses in two-hour shifts (chairs will be made available so you dont have to stand this whole time). In return, you will get free admission to the show and plenty of time to really peruse the quilts and needlework. Sign-up sheets will be going around at the next couple of guild meetings. If you have any questions, please contact Miriam B.

Librarian Needed Dayle is giving up her position as Librarian and would like someone to step forward to serve as chairperson. Basically, your job is to keep track of the Guilds books and to bring a box of them to meetings. There are other ladies that also bring boxes to meetings. An inventory is being done and Dayle is ready to hand over the reins. Please contact her if you are interested.

Presidents Quilt

If you are interested in making a block for the Presidents quilt (Chris C.),please contact Kathy T. Soon!

IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE A SUPPLY LIST FOR THE DAYTIME CLASS ON MARCH 10TH, PLEASE CONTACT MINDY C.
