Review of Drive by Sue Brody

NEXT ON FOX...WHEN CARS ATTACK HUMAN BEINGS...

Anyway, what to think? It sure didn't *feel* like a Vince ep, did it? But I
guess the spoilers showed us that.

The beginning of the episode was pretty amusing. It really did feel like one
of Fox's reality shows. The close captioning is much different, with the cops
pondering how the woman died. If you have cc and didn't use it, I'd watch
the beginning again w/ it.

What I liked BEST about this ep was:
a) That Mulder *and* Scully came up with the reasons behind Crump and his
wife's "exploding eardrums." This is different. When I saw the dog and the
needle, I thought "ICE!"
b) That Scully was very forceful with AD Kersh (who must die, by the way).
"You seem to defend your partner a lot." Uh huh. DO YOU GET IT YET?! It is
nice to see this unity. Thank goodness. I wondered after The Beginning.

Have I mentioned that Kersh must die? You know, though, he doesn't
appear to be very three dimensional. He just seems a rather conventional
villain, and I wonder if this will work. I already miss Skinner. COME BACK,
SKINNER! *sniffle*

What a surprise that the government was involved and it was "classified." I'm
glad The X-Files is still going this way. I liked how Scully pretended she
was with the FCC (reminded me of Unusual Suspects).

Crump was very much like Mulder (and Scully); on the outside, being used. I
think this is why Mulder was so sympathetic toward him (aside from trying
to find out what was wrong with him).

Note that Mulder did *not* say he was Jewish, but also didn't say he
wasn't. I think they could have played up this point a bit more (I mean,
the anti-semitic angle).

A lot of this ep seemed pretty conventional to me. The whole part with
Scully investigating the disease vectors really bored me, I have to admit.
And I still prefer when M&S work together...

Some great lines in this ep, though, including the references to cell
phone withdrawal.

Boy, they are going reality-based this year, aren't they? MORE on the
expenses our agents spent. Guess Antarctica really pissed off the FBI, eh?

I still don't quite get the deal with Skinner being out of the picture.
He was their boss--he didn't have to be *because* of the X-Files, did he?
Did the FBI say he had to stay out of it now? Did he choose to as a way to
help them (because he can help by being 'part of the majority,' as he stated
last week)?

Loved them entering California...couldn't go further West. They are really
going to play up LA for all its worth, aren't they?

Did you catch how Crump couldn't go to work BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING? Again,
that seemed highly ironic to me.

I don't know exactly how to feel overall. At times, I was really bored (and
honestly, the case itself wasn't all that interesting). However, it was
rather interesting metaphorically, and I do feel better
about M&S. Wouldn't it be nice if Scully opened up as much to Mulder as she
does to, it seems, everyone else in the FBI? Do you think Mulder has a
clue? Sometimes I think he does, but last week, I didn't.

And finally, I loved that little hint of a kiss next week ("in case we
never meet again...").
