Review of Dreamland II by Sue Brody It had an intriguing opening. Funny, actually. Re: the reference to the name Fox...teehee. I always wondered if FOX really liked the idea of their hero being named Fox. Was he supposed to symbolize them? They were a fledgling network when The X-Files started...and they didn't really think TXF would "make it"...maybe they didn't care. Huh, they are now! Poor "Spooky." Still and always misunderstood, except (on occasion) by Scully. Scully "snorts" according to the close captioning. Has she ever *snorted* before? I almost thought Joanne was going to believe Mulder when he confessed that he wsan't Morris. "Let's get it on..." Mirrors. That alone should...wait, no. Playgirl magazine. Never mind. (Obviously, 1013 was saying to us, MULDER IS LONELY. THAT'S WHY HE IS INTO PORN. I say, Scully is available...) The apartment in the commercial for Phillips lightbulbs looked like Mulder's apartment. Well, the way the apt USED to look. There are even fish! Did this feel like an anti-X-Files ep to you?! Didn't GA's Scully in the bedroom sound like the Scully in Kill Switch who kick!asses the nurses, then turns on Mulder in his virtual reality dream? Do we get any regular eps this year, you know, mytharcs or MOTWs, The Beginning notwithstanding? Or did they leave them behind in Vancouver? Have I mentioned this already? The sunflower scene in particular worked for me. Scully and Mulder looked heartstricken."I'd kiss if you weren't so damned ugly." Okay, THAT was the closest Scully has admitted to loving Mulder that I've heard this season. Sure, it's EASIER when you *can't* do it, but there was definite *intent* there. If 1013 were braver, they could have had Mulder change RIGHT THERE and played with THAT but we know better, snort.). And Mulder giving her the sunflower seeds...*sigh* Hokey? Maybe, but it's all he could do. Another way of saying I love you. I don't actually believe they had given up...I mean, how do we know?...just that the realization that this could be the case, that maybe there *wasn't* anything they could do to reverse the process, really, really hit them, and it hurt them like hell. The sunflower seeds...very nice touch. Really tender, moving scene. Scully and Mulder *hated* Morris. Nice, very nice. Very in synch. And Scully as a believer...very nice. Good sign for the future. Even if no one directly involved in the time continuum didn't remember the events, it did happen, yes (ala the dime/penny and the APARTMENT)? So, does everyone remember except the people actually affected by the events? Scully is so gentle with Mulder at the end b/c she has sort of gotten a chance to live in his shoes, which is kind of the opposite of what we saw last week, i.e., that Mulder gets to live in Morris's shoes. Actually, Philes claim Next week's promo: TELLING US that Ed Asner and Lily Tomlin are guest stars in How The Ghosts Stole Christmas? Is TXF afraid that people wouldn't get it? Have they ever done that before?! Isn't this becoming "Celebrity Parade of the Week?" At least it was a bit more subtle in the past. And another gimmicky ep...*sigh*...when the heck are we gonna get a real X-File? IS THIS ASKING SO MUCH? Okay, so I thought this ep was better than last week's, yes, but...why am I left with a disappointed taste in my mouth? Why doesn't this feel like The X-Files I know and love? Why do I have a real need to go watch a good ep from a few years ago? *deep sigh* I just kept thinking, GIMMICK, GIMMICK. I was happy that the guy who would be Spender did the right thing, though. Yay, Faux Spender! But it all seemed way too easy...things just reversed themselves? It was really *that* easy? And Morris and his wife just made up *that* easily? I dunno... The only good things I got out of this ep were that: It is now even clearer to me that Kersh is a baddie. Scully's affection for Mulder was pretty clear. Maybe she needed to see Mulder in a different light for her to "get it." Okay, you'd think five plus years would be enough, but whatever. Now MULDER gets to not remember (ala Scully in FTF). I am waiting for the revolutionary episode where both Mulder *and* Scully see the same things, believe the same things. I guess I'm dreaming, but you know, this did end up being like a dream sequence, because the two main characters, Mulder and Morris (just realized how close their names were to one another!), or M&M , yin and yang, did end up forgetting everything. Now I *know* certain people will be writing fanfic about Mulder imagining why his apartment looks the way it does now, but remember, there's a good chance that what Morris said about Mulder not having sex for ten years is true (the last being Fowley). Sorry, kids. Aside from the sunflower scene, I loved seeing the Lone Gunmen again (Note to 1013--bring them back more often, okay? They rock!),Tender!Scully at the end, and Mulder's priceless expression when he sees his apartment changed, although implausible...not that Morris would have had time to rearrange the apartment that quickly in the first place, but why get into details? The boys at 1013 were pretty fast and loose with them in the past two eps. Unfortunately, this was just a so-so ep, writing-wise, and another example of XF-Lite. This "It didn't really happen, well, it did, but no one remembers, so it might as well not have" b.s. is wearing beyond thin. Sooo...who wants to write an old-fashioned, scary ep, like the eps we used to watch? This week's Millenium looks more like The X-Files than The X-Files does. And I want the basement office back...::sob:: I used to enjoy the satiric eps, but in relation to the more serious ones. When all we get are satiric eps...well, it's not your mother's X-Files anymore, kids.
