Review of Arcadia by Sue Brody

I *hated* this ep. So for those of you who loved it, please stop reading
now. You have been suitably warned.

Okay, those of you who are still reading: Hi. First of all:  Who still
misses dark nights, mist, and forests? ::raises hand:: Well, apparently
WBD, aka CSM, does, too, so I'm not the only one!

What did I like? Well, I liked that Dave used a trophy as a weapon in the
teaser. No guns for this community! Didn't hear the splat that the close
captioning noted...too bad. Just kidding. And I liked Mulder in his gray
t-shirt and jeans. And...er...that's about it.

A strong chain can't survive w/ a weak link. One bad apple...That was *so*
OUR TOWN (the ep, not the play).

They were on their FIRST X-File again? 'scuse me? MUY AGUA MALA, anyone?
Was this because they weren't assigned to that? And I guess Monday didn't
count either, then. I thought they were supposed to fix the dialogue in
ARCADIA, so I thought that was an odd line to keep in.

How much *not a couple were M&S? I mean, really!!! *sigh* Yes, I *know*
they were on a case, but if there were a more than platonic relationship,
you know, maybe a little flirting...or let's put it this way...Scully shows
tremendous affection for Mulder every time she thinks he's about to die
(examples: MONDAY, w/ Mulder lying in a pool of blood; DOD KALM; nearly
every mytharc; and so many others). But when he's okay, does she seem the
*least* bit interested? Nooooo...Nor did Mulder, either. I mean, he was
just joking, seemed to me, about their being a couple.  Okay, rant over.
Maybe Mulder just thought it was silly, as Scully claimed ("You're not
taking this seriously," re: their names, which made me grimace, even though
I knew it was coming), but you have to wonder.

How annoying was the whole idea of them being married? Not the idea, but
the way it was handled, that is. Because this totally showed me that 1013
has *no* clue that M&S have the *slightest* interest in one another. And
that *might* have been okay in season one, but, and geez, was there *no*
kiss interruptus in FTF? Did I just IMAGINE Mulder telling Scully he loved
her in TRIANGLE?  Man, maybe he *was* delirious, like Scully thought, cause
I'm sure not seeing it here. And you can *say* it's because they are on a
case, but they seemed a helluva lot more comfortable w/ one another in
DETOUR than they did here...gads, they are moving *backwards* in the
relationship. I did have some warm memories seeing Mulder drink orange
juice. (Tropicana, no less! No generic juice in *this* community.) But
otherwise...ick.

Didn't you think SCHIZOGENY while watching this? I mean, the thing from the
ground that comes up and devours people? And it's
apropos--recycling--because after all, this community *is* built on an old
landfill. I was also thinking EL MUNDO YUCKO (in messing w/ things one
shouldn't mess with, in that case, burial sites), with a little bit of Moth
Men thrown in for good measure. Oh, yeah, that dog...reminded me of a kitty
(it was small enough), and I got very worried. I miss Queequeg.

Can you tell that I didn't like this ep very much? At all??? And I was so
excited after MONDAY... The whole ep really had just about *no* premise, no
plot, or what it had we figured out in about 30 seconds (except for the
fact that the guy could summon the spirit up but couldn't control it, but I
could have cared less by this point...though I was glad to see Big Mike was
still alive...til he was killed again), and again, like in AGUA MALA,
everything ended up being explained in the last minute. I mean, did we
*really* even get to know the characters in this ep? I would have liked a
bit more Big Mike, or even the creator of the community...but no, 1013 was
too busy making jokes about M&S being married, or showing how they weren't
like the others. And that voice over at the end...didn't work. Didn't care.

Please...please...leave the script writing to Vince from now on. Gads.
Toilet seats left up and toothpaste squeezed from the middle...hysterical.
NOT.

I didn't want to be this disappointed...but I was...I'm going to have to
watch old eps again, aren't I? Or maybe MONDAY again...but maybe I don't
need to, b/c I felt like I was in hell watching this turkey. Ouch.

This ep really hurt to watch.
