Review of One Son by Sue Brody

I already know a lot of Shippers aren't happy about this one but, it worked
for me. What suprised me was that Mulder kissed Fowley (okay, SHE kisses
him and he lets her) and yet no go w/ Scully. HOWEVER, for those of you who
are desperately unhappy, please keep the following in mind:

Fowley was *not* in the office near the end. M&S were, along with Skinner
and Kersh. Scully went along with Mulder. Fowley WAS NOT THERE. NOT THERE.
So when it comes down to it, IMHO, it's Scully and Mulder, Mulder and
Scully, and NOT Mulder and Fowley. And of course, it is SCULLY who led
Mulder to the site of the Syndicate Holocaust, not Fowley, the betrayer of
all things X-Files.

Yeah, Mulder was a wuss re: Fowley, and he should have known better
(Phoebe, you idiot, PHOEBE!), but at least at the end he was withScully
again.

As for the story--I thought this was a pretty good ep. I actually liked Two
Fathers better. There was nothing that *shocking* here (Full Disclosure
indeed!); I mean, if I had to hear ONE MORE TIME that Cassandra was the
first alien/human hybrid, I was going to scream!!! Um, yes, we *get* it,
thanks, move it along. Again it was confirmed that Krycek is a two-timer,
Jeffrey just didn't *get* it, Fowley was a baddie (what she'll end up being
now, who knows? All bets are off, as Mulder said), Skinner backed our duo,
and Kersh will let M&S back on the X-Files. I mean, why not? Mulder knows,
afterall. I have to admit being surprised about Marita's appearance (yeah,
I should have gotten it, just like I should have gotten Die Fowley talking
to CSM last week), but felt she had received her just desserts.

Did Cassandra Spender die? I need to watch the footage again, but it
appears as if she might have been abducted, since we never see *anyone's*
body, and she was put to the side. I felt so weird seeing the Syndicate die
(I had thought we would see them burn, and I sort of wanted to. Seemed
fair, in a way, after all THOSE they had killed). I wonder how CSM (or
should I say CGB Spender? Naaah, CSM is better!) will play the game now. I
wonder if Jeffrey really did die (since we didn't *see* it happen). I
wonder what Marita will do (man, did she look awful or *what*?). I wonder
what Mulder do will re: the colonization. I wonder when 1013 will get back
to this storyline again. <g>

In any case, Scully REALLY stood up for herself. She made it clear to
Mulder what she thought about Fowley, the LGM concurred, and in the end,
Fowley ran off with CSM (maybe they will end up the anti-Mulder/Scully!),
while Scully ended up with Skinner and Mulder. I can't stress this enough.
Mulder *knows* that Fowley was working with CSM. If he can't buy into CSM's
game, then he won't go along with Fowley, either.

Man, it was sad and hard to watch Mulder at the end. He looked beyond
depressed, as if he might cry. I guess we won't see any more mytharcs for a
while, and I'm really curious as to what is going to happen to the world.
Apparently, we are safe for a while. <g> I wish Sam would come back, but I
sense she won't til the end of the season, if then.

I guess if you really watch the show for Mulder and Scully's interactions,
and that takes precedence above all (and it doesn't mean you're *not* a
Shipper if you don't!!!), then this ep would bug you no end, but if you
watch it for a variety of reasons, as I do, then you yelled at the scream
at Mulder's ignorance (simple faith really sums it up--more like just
simple), and were glad that in the end he ended up with Scully again.
*whew*

I am just relieved that they are back on The X-Files and we can stop this
nonsense. I want them back in their office, fighting the good fights!!! I
want more aroma therapy comments, etal.

Oh, and after rewatching (finally!!!) M&S in the gym again in Two Fathers,
there is no doubt in my mind that he was checking Scully out and showing
off for her. So I think he just suffers brief bouts of amnesia or dementia,
and then comes back to his senses. Luckily, Scully does not suffer fools
gladly!

But I do have to say that there was something bittersweet about watching
this ep--in some ways, it *did* feel like the end of an era (the music even
reflected the theme, and was actually from the movie at times).

The dark is baaaaaack! And I couldn't be happier about it.
