The Field Where I Died - 10/31/99    ...Happy Freakin' Halloween
 
"This is the field where I watched you die" - Melissa/ Sarah
 
This episode started out well enough. I'm not particularly fond of 
droning monologues, but I do love the ATF/FBI raids. They just look 
so cool. I also love Morgan & Wong eps. Who doesn't? But, I digress.
 
To all of those lovely little shipper mutants, I have to say HA FREAKIN' 
HA! Mulder and Scully are not 'soul mates' or whatever. They don't 
even need to be romantically involved. They're just friends, but the 
best kind of friends. I mean, after 200 years, what do you expect?
 
I am very intrigued about the idea of past life regression, etc. I think 
that this episode dealt with that genre of the paranormal very well. 
Some things weren't explained, though. I understand the deal with the 
protector personality, but just who was that guy that thought that Harry 
Truman was president? Who was that little girl, Lily? (I could not 
help but laugh when 'Lily' looked at Scully and said, "Can you do this?" 
and stuck out her tongue to her nose. Priceless...) That Sarah character 
bothered me too. I was born and raised in the South and still live about 
an hour from Tennessee and I have never in my albeit short lifetime 
heard any true southerner talk like she did. I have a southern accent. 
She did not. She had the Scarlet O'Hara type accent, like, fake! I know 
that alot has changed in 100+ years, but not that much... I would've like 
more focus on all of the characters that Melissa manifested, not just 
one. There was a story behind them too, and I'm sure Mulder was in there 
somewhere. And another thing: while Melissa was under hypnosis, her 
voice was true to her personalities. So how come when Mulder was under 
hypnosis, his voice stayed the same. Weirdness...
 
Overall, this was just season filler. Nothing important or memorable, 
but not all together bad either. Boring at times, but I've seen Mulder 
cry before so that was nothing new. If you haven't seen this one. It's 
not that big of a deal. You're not missing anything except for some great 
Scullyisms.

-Was it just my imagination, or did some FBI guy call Mulder 'our boy Spooky'?
 
-I'm still pretty pissed about that accent thing... but anyway...
 
-Another priceless scene: Mulder is on the cell phone trying to arrange 
for a hypnosis for Melissa... the cell phone is plugged into the cig. 
lighter... hmm... odd. until Scully gets pissed at him and yanks the cord 
from the phone... funny stuff! Okay, you had to see it... hilarious.
 
-So Mulder and Scully have known each other forever... so what... Did we 
really need an episode based on that?
 
-Go Scully! points for knowing how to spell Kavanaugh.
