"Believe the lie." ~ Just about everybody

Now, I've been called alot of things in my relatively short life, but 'gullible' is not one of them. So I'm not apt to believe in any sort of lie without some sort of proof that doesn't disappear after I see it.

Anyway.

I remember way back when this one originally aired, after it was over, I sat staring at the screen thinking "what the HELL was THAT?". What a crappy season premiere!

When you watch this trilogy together, one after the other after the other, the whole thing isn't too bad, it's almost half-way entertaining, but to see this after 5-6 months of waiting? Give me a break, CC!

What was the point of this? I mean, really? Was there even a point? I don't even think that CC himself could tell you.

But here's what I think anyway: Mulder (who's dead, you know) is traipsing around the DOD facility, listening to Kritschgau's war stories and jiggling door handles trying to find a cure for Scully's cancer (which he doesn't know is metastisized-he thinks she just fine), the supposed thing that he wants most desperately. He knows in the back of his mind that if he finds this all fired cured, he'll have proven the existence of this hoax (and last time I checked, he didn't even believe Kritschgau, now look!) BUT he'll save Scully. On the other hand, if he doesn't find a cure for Scully, he'll still have hope that there really ARE aliens and such, but Scully will DIE.

So he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

Meanwhile, Scully is trying to prove that her cancer is similar to this alien body from Gethsemane and is therefore the result of tests that these men who are responsible for the body and the hoax did to her.

DUH SCULLY! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN SINCE "ONE BREATH"?

Oh, and I really don't understand Skinner's actions in this whole thing. It's obvious that he knows immediately that Scully is lying about Mulder's suicide, so why doesn't he tell her "I'm on to your game. Let me help you." Last time I checked, Skinner was willing to lose everything to save Scully, but now he's reveling in helping to bring her and Mulder down. He's acting like he's the "FBI man" that is connected to the Syndicate- he's acting like the bad guy. Is he still acting under the guise of CSM, or can he not make up him mind who to be faithful to?  Why? Is this some elaborate way to prove to Mulder, Scully, and the faithful viewers that "trust no one" still applies after all these years, except between Mulder and Scully?

And at the end, of course, Scully almost passes out before she implicates Skinner as a lying son of a bitch, and Mulder finds out that his picnic at the DOD was all for nothing, so we accomplished nothing. Surprise, surprise.

Anyone got a better idea as to what CC was thinking when he wrote this?

But, after all that, if you take this one out of context of the series and go brain dead while watching it, not paying attention to the mytharc significance of all of this (if there is any), its really not TOO bad.
