I wonder exactly what Shiban's point was in writing this one. It's not a MotW and it's not a mythology, so what is it? Shiban having fun trying to tear Mulder and Scully apart? To make us, as loyal Philes, question Mulder's actions and root for Scully and her incessant meddling?
I'm betting Shiban doesn't know why he wrote it.
I do find great pleasure in seeing Mulder and Scully hide things from each other and, in the end, return to their original belief that the only ones they can trust are themselves.
Maybe we need an episode like this every once in a while to remind us that "trust no one" still carries some weight.
