Memento Mori ~ 02/02/01

"Theirs always another way." ~ Skinner

Way back in '97 when I first saw this one, I remember that I nearly cried at the end.

Then for my birthday last year, when I got the second set of season 4 tapes from my mom, I remember almost falling asleep as I watched it.

Today, after viewing it for the 50th time (probably) I revere it as one of the most effective mythology episodes ever made.

First of all, MM is Scully-centric and the mythology is secondary to the overall plot, which really makes this one tolerable and rewatchable. Scully's character is completely on target and even has continuity. The mythology is advanced in a continuous, practical, and believable manner, and Mulder and The Lone Gunman serve to join the two together to make a seamless story.

Also, Skinner sells his soul to the Devil (no, really!) to save Scully's life... I wonder how that's gonna come out.

Of course, I've seen "Zero Sum," so I already know, but thinking in terms of 1997...
