Millennium - 11/29/99 "One hell of a Christmas..." - that woman, you know... I have been waiting all day to review this episode. After last night's initial viewing, I was ready to give this ep 2.5 lounge chairs. It wasn't stellar, but it didn't suck either... until the "unmentionable" happened. Then it really sucked. I watched it again this morning and I liked it a little better. Maybe worth 3 lounge chairs... I'm still not sure. Here's why: this episode had tons and tons of promise. I loved Millennium, but hardly ever got to watch it. I love the character of Frank Black and love the acting of Lance Henricksen (sp?). Combining them with TXF was a genius move. Top that off with writing by St. Vincent and you've got one hell of a good episode... or you should anyway... I was disappointed. I guess my standards are just too high. It started out really really good. Really good! I like funeral things. They're so versatile! What happened to that dank and mysterious beginning, I don't know. You had a mean acting Black watching a freakin' football game (its first and 18!), Mulder being as annoying as hell, and Scully acting all naïve and such like she's never seen people coming back from the dead before. Then, all of the sudden, Black wants to help. He basically does all of the work and gets none of the credit, handing M&S a profile of the bad guy on a silver platter (after he killed the policeman). Of course M&S go their separate ways (because they can't work together anymore), Scully gets attacked (they even try to convince us that she's dead!), Mulder trespasses on bad dudes' property, get attacked, and has to have crazy Frankie come bail him out. Oh, and their was something in their about raising the dead (necromancy), circles out of goats blood, a lot of salt, THE END OF THE FREAKIN' WORLD, and A KISS! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY! THEY FREAKIN' KISS! Although I am against any form of romance between the dynamic duo, there are certain situations in which I may have been able to accept and possibly respect "the kiss". If it had emotion, feeling, some nice dialogue, and a good reason, which this one had none of. Happy New Year indeed. No, the world didn't end, but it might as well have. The shows ruined now. It'll never be the same. I would've liked a kiss in Redux 2, but this... it wasn't worth it. Waste of a good show. The end. Fini. Musings of a K.M.C. - I knew I was in for a let down when we came back from commercial and Mulder was down in a hole with Scully following at his heels. Can these people not ride in the same car together anymore? - So, those zombies will die if they're shot in the head, but not "square in the chest". Theirs "no effect" from being shot "square in the chest". I'm just glad they didn't "fly at you like a flying squirrel", not that I'd use that term when I talk to Skinner.... -Speaking of Spanky, exactly what was his purpose in this ep? Can M&S not find their own cases now? -What was up with that chic's glasses in "the meeting" scene? -Did anyone else hurl when M&S walk off all lovey-dovey at the end? I hated watching that more than I hated watching Mulder "get it on" with Fowley. -With all of the ranting I've been doing (not to mention my increased salt intake) I'm gonna have to go on blood pressure medicine. I'm to young for this. Rating: after careful consideration, I've decided to go with 2 lounge chairs out of 5, mainly because of the pseudo-kiss. It sucked. "No body likes a math geek, Scully." - Mulder
