Hungry - 11/23/99 "... recent unpleasantness..." I'll start by saying that the tape I used to record this episode on somehow managed to screw itself up, so the first 20-30 minutes are completely unintelligible. The offering from St. Vincent sorely disappointed me. After penning an episode like Paper Heart, I would have definitely expected a lot more. In PH you got some character development, nice interaction between M&S, a goooood villain, etc. This however, this... sucked. My first complaint also happens to be the $64,000 question, Scully, WHERE THE HELL WERE OUR AGENTS? Was this the 'lets feel pity for the poor genetic freak' hour or the X-Files? This was no dramatic crime-oriented MotW episode, it wasn't 'lite' and it certainly wasn't mytharic, so where (prey tell) does it fit in? New category: well meaning scripts by once good writers. I guess CC and Shiban will fill this one up nicely. Second complain is about the lack of answers we received about our poor, pathetic genetic freak. Why was he a freak? Why did he wear a wig, pull off his ears, mask his eyes, and have dentures? Why did he only eat brains? What was he doing in American (and California, none the less)? How did he ever get a Social Security card? Where did he hide that big ol' tongue of his? How did that psychiatrist lady nearly fall in love with him? Why didn't the boy get some freakin' NORMAL food? Ya gotta eat! You get my point? This episode also ended WAY to abruptly. We never even get to see Scully do an autopsy, on him or anyone. Where was the delightful criminal catching banter of M&S working together harmonically to serve the great good? Maybe it has something to do with whats-his-name saying, "I can't be something I'm not". Maybe that was Vinny's way of telling us that M&S never really worked well together at all, and sucked as FBI agents, so why try to mask that anymore. People don't care about them anyway. They was to see genetic freaks, but just don't explain ANYTHING about ANYTHING, and you'll be okay. Great episode. Yeah, right. Sure, fine whatever, Mulder. I'm goin' down to Fousto's to get some choc'late milk... Musings of a K.M.C. -If psychiatrist-lady never spoke the FBI, how come Scully knew her name? -Vinny always comes up with the greatest names: Derwood... Derwood! Ha- freakin-ha... Derwood! -This episode sucked. -Paper Hearts was really really good. -That made this one suck even more. -Morgan & Wong gave us 3... but they also gave Musings of A CSM... at least they redeemed themselves. Rating: 2 lounge chairs out of 5 Previews for next week: Looks good, but I love Millennium too, and no I'm not looking forward to "the kiss"... IMHO, CC is ruining the show... I still can't wait to see good ol' Frankie! "...tired a' screwin' up, tired a' goin' down, tired a' myself, tired a' this town..." -St. Tom and his Deacons of Broken Hearts
