"Theirs something up there, Mulder".
"I been sayin' that for years".
This one is a guilty pleasure. Although it's certainly not one of the best ever made, or even one of the best from season 1, I absolutely love it.
Why?
I dunno.
I think it's hilarious, for one. Seeing Scully in the "throws of passion" is weird, especially when the killer is a pure and devout Christian.
And seeing Mulder break up their party is even better!
All in all, nothing is really explained in the end. Basically The Kindred die and come back as a member of the other sex, except Marty decided that he was going to enjoy the best of each sex against the wishes of his fellow cult members. I don't understand how exactly Marty (or Brother Almost-lays-Scully) kills people , but I'm willing to overlook that minor misgiving.
One thing that does bother me: at the end, the writers make overtures to these people being aliens with the crop circles and all...
Hmm... how does this fit into the mythology?
Musings of a K.M.C.
- This one is just after perfection in the form of "Beyond the Sea". After seeing Scully so distraught over the death of her father in that one, it's nice to know that she's rebounded nicely and is again fully capable of "doing the wild thing with a perfect stranger".
- Mulder has also healed well from his gun shot wound...
- It's nice to see a religious cult that has a woman in charge of it. Those people know what they're doing!
- How exactly did The Kindred get away from Mulder and Scully with Marty to their giant spaceship?
- And why did Brother Almost-lays-Scully (can't remember his name) feel the need to smack Scully just before he dashed away with the rest of The Kindred?
Anyway...
