The Sixth Extinction - 11/08/99 "Some truths are not for you." If this is truth, none of it is for me. I wasn't disgusted by this episode. After all, it is mythology and a season premiere, so exceptions must be made. I was disappointed, but I expected that. Overall, it was 'ok', but nothing special. Enough with opening pleasantries, let's nit-pick! First of all, how can Scully afford to stay in Africa? Doesn't she have a job of her own to do, other than chase Mulder around? Jeez, she must have had a ton of vacation time. She must have run out of clothes too, because those shirts she was wearing were way too tight. And whats the deal with the machete? Where's her gun? And I thought people in the Ivory Coast spoke French! Despite those minor misgivings, this episode opened in true XF form: a voice over/monologue. Scully's narrating a journal to Mulder, probably the same one she used in Memento Mori. She tells him all about her struggles and how hard is to make sense out of writing on an extra terrestrial space craft written in an ancient language. These are things that she would never tell Mulder. She's Scully, she's fine, and she's kickin' butt with that knife of hers. Well, maybe the tight white shirts instead of the knife... but anyway. I like the biblical tie in with the plagues and stuff, locusts, boiling sea, sea of blood, etc. even though on my S7 wish list I specifically said "No more end of the world apocalyptic garbage" (to quote Mulder from the movie). One thing confused me in this hemisphere: when was Scully ever under suspicion for anyone death, let alone Dr. M's? Dr. Barnes makes an overture that led me to believe that she was... Coming back the great ol' 'Mer'can dirt plantations, Mulder's in the hospital (of course) and attacks Spanky (of course) and has to put up with DIEana FOULy's half hearted love confession, Kritchgau telling him that he sucks at psychic readings but through all that, the boys got SOUL! Did you hear his rhythm on those monitors? He could've been a musician... tee-hee-hee. Nothing really surprised me about any of this though. Come to think of it, did anything really happen? Did we really learn anything new, other than that Mulder can be treated? I didn't think so. Come to think of it, it seems to me that at the end of this episode, I felt kinda high and dry. There was absolutely no resolution to any of the cliffhangers from last season. It was pure filler. Why? Maybe that question can be answered next week with the conclusion. Not even Redux did this bad of a job with consistency. At least we knew that Mulder was alive... one resolution. Musings of a K.M.C. - Editors busted on continuation: Right before we get to see Kritchgau's fancy new dig, we learn by the thing at the bottom of the screen that it is exactly 5:05 AM, but Kritzy says "its six AM". Open mouth insert foot! - I guess Snow couldn't come up with any new music and had to use the same score from Bio... how sad. - I like Spanky's meanness to Foul, but that "I love you, Fox. I've loved you for so long." thing really got to me. Talk about nightmares... That's when I wanted to bury a machete in someone's throat. - And now that Scully's back in the country, someone stole the freakin' space craft. La-de-da. Woo-hoo. Look at me, I don't care! It's pretty sad when a long anticipated, overblown episode is just filler before the REAL season premiere. Oh well, what do you expect from CC? Rating: 3 generous lounge chairs out of 5 Previews: Yay Deep Throat! (Yeah right... I'm soooo sure its really him.)/ When was Mulder ever infected with an alien virus?/ SEX SCENE BETWEEN MULDER AND FOWLY?/ At least Albert is okay./ Fox, I am your father./ Can't wait for this one!
