"Milagro" - by Caroline O’Connell Spoilers "I think you know me better than that, Mulder." - Dana Scully She sat surrounded by noise and colour, yet alone. Gentle caresses of thumb and forefinger removed the traces that blocked her vision. Clarity returned and she knew what she must do. Sorry, just cleaning my glasses. Where was I? Ah yes, Milagro or, if you prefer, Attack of the Killer Badfic Writer with text that just screams "Chris Carter Wrote This". I wonder if he took a trip to The Gossamer Archive and decided to take revenge on anyone who ever put pen to paper to write their own X-File. Padgett’s writing - much like some of the recent episodes - doesn’t come close to describing Scully. He describes the superficial - "errant strand of titian hair", but is completely off base when it comes to Scully as a woman, or simply as a person. That’s been a problem in Season 6 all the way through and if Chris Carter the Creator can’t give us an accurate portrayal, then who can? Apparently controlled by Padgett’s writing, Scully begins to do things that are out of character. She knows this man is not safe to be around - he admitted to stalking her - yet she goes to his apartment and ends up in his bedroom (presumably because he hasn’t a chair for her to sit on and not to do "the naked pretzel".) John Hawkes who plays Padgett underplays nicely. He’s skin-crawilingly creepy, but not an out and out drooling psycho. His scenes with Gillian Anderson were well done. The matter of fact way in which he detailed the lengths to which he has gone to find out about her are more frightening for it. Just once, it would be nice if Scully could meet someone who wasn’t a complete lunatic! As with most of the "Scullycentric" episodes, Mulder hangs around making remarks and this was no exception and once again we had Mulder completely disregard Scully when she opens up enough to offer him a "paranormal" explanation (Beyond the Sea, Revelations, All Souls.). You’d think this would be another "Dear Diary..." moment! Speaking of which, when Padgett tells Scully she’s already in love, I’m sure my lovely friends the Shippers (Hi, Sue!) wrote reams, but did you see the look on Mulder’s face as if to say "Huh? Is she? With whom?". Priceless stuff - as was that final scene with Mulder cradling a sobbing Scully. Now that’s the stuff fanfics are made of! Did I tell you my new outline? It’s about this woman in Dublin, Ireland who has won the National Lottery for the 5th time. Mulder goes to investigate and they... 6/10 Stuff I’ve heard of "be still my beating heart", but that’s just a little more detail than I needed! (My roommate will be in therapy for weeks!) The Milagro is indeed a miraculous medal. In some scenes it’s flat and dark, in others it’s 3D and gold. Coffee and toothpaste for breakfast, Mulder? That’s nearly as gross as the beating hearts!! If Dead!Kevin is 16 years old then I’m very young indeed! "Hello, I’m a stalking psycho fiction writer, wanna coffee?" "Okay!" Oh, and Mr Padgett, referring to a woman’s muscular calves is not the way to flatter a chic! Isn’t ironic, doncha think: This guy is getting all moony over Scully and she’s in the dullest outfit in history (nice push up bra, though!). Although with all her nice coloured blouses covered in blood at this stage, maybe black is her best option! I can just imagine the residents’ meetings at Mulder’s. "We have an application from a psychopathic loner. That’ll be for the 4th floor, then." Welcome to the all-purpose Hollywood graveyard. Straight ahead you have the Party of 5 Sallinger parents, to your right, the cast of Buffy The Vampire Slayer... Why is Scully only ever interested in crazies? Padgett, Ed Jerse, Mulder. (Only joking!) Cal "I live in my head."
