Tulip was in the Spokane County shelter. It is thought that she was probably hit by a car. She had a broken leg, and was in a soft cast until her owner was found, or rescue could help.

Tulip was VERY lucky! The Whitman County Humane Society offered to take her in as a Hope Fund case, and get her the medical care she needed. Her surgery has cost $900, to repair her badly smashed leg, and donations are needed!

Tulip is approx 5 years old and about 100#. She is currently in foster care for her recovery, but will be looking for a new home soon. Tulip is very gentle and affectionate and just loves everyone. She is fine with very small children, is VERY respectful of cats and does well with other dogs. She has very nice manners -- her foster caregiver says she has been perfect in their home.

Please, if you can make a donation towards the Hope Fund to help cover the costs incurred in helping Tulip, send your donations to:
WCHS, The Hope Fund, 101 W. Main, Pullman, WA 99163.

IN REMEMBRANCE:

Sophie, a very special Hope Fund case

UPDATE 3/14/03! - Sophie gave birth to seven pups, 3 weeks ago. All are happy and healthy, but Sophie wasn't so fortunate. She passed away last night, due to internal complications. We know that she had carried those pups to term, despite the pain she must have felt with her broken leg. We don't know how much other trauma she may have endured at the same time. She was a wonderful mom, and gave her all to her pups. Her foster home did everything they could to save her, including an emergency surgery, but it wasn't meant to be. The pups will continue to be cared for, and bottle fed. Sophie is running and playing in Heaven.

We thank everyone who helped get Sophie out of the shelter, tend to her and her pups, and contributed to the surgery that we hoped would make her whole. Please don't forget this Hope Fund, as it will make the difference between life and death in future animals just like Sophie. If you can, please make a contribution in Sophie's memory. She touched many hearts!

Sophie - This dog was in the Spokane County Shelter. She has a broken leg and is VERY pregnant. Through a network of people, and a local Spokane compassion fund, Sophie was pulled and seen by a vet. It was discovered that her leg had been broken for quite some time, possibly 2 months, and never healed or had any medical attention. She is also carrying 6 or 7 pups, and is due towards the end of February.

A foster home in Pullman, WA graciously opened her home to this mom-to-be, and the Whitman County Humane Society generously offered their Hope Fund to raise donations to pay for Sophie's upcoming surgical needs. Her leg is currently in a splint, and she will undergo surgery to repair her leg a few weeks after her pups are born. She is very happy to be in a home, safe and warm, just look at the picture!

The estimated cost of Sophie's surgery is $600. Donations can be sent to:
WCHS, The Hope Fund, 101 W. Main, Pullman, WA 99163.
Any donations over the $600 will be used for future medical needs. This fund means the difference between life and death for many injured shelter animals.
