Tippy - Tippy is a 6-year-old male Westie who was turned into rescue when his 84-year-old owner was hospitalized and could no longer care for him. He was suffering from severe long-term skin problems which had been misdiagnosed and improperly treated for over 5 years. After receiving him into rescue we located a vet willing to board him while diagnosing and treating him. Lab tests were done for Epidermal Dysplasia, and results were that the skin "is minimally consistent with that diagnosis. Also, that mild allergies may be present. But, the tests also indicated that something else was the real cause of his problems. So, a complete thyroid panel was done and the mystery was solved. After three weeks at the vets, many baths and the laboratory tests, Tippy's problem was diagnosed as hypothyroidism. He is now on treatment, has been placed in his new "forever" home, is almost itch-free and is growing hair and healthier skin. And thanks to the vets who absorbed much of his costs, and to many wonderful, caring people who bid on auction items and sent donations, we were able to pay the bills for his care.
