Paul in Ottawa - October 18th, 1997 ~ Center Point Theater |
|

|
Paul's concert in Ottawa was officially announced on Sept. 9th, 1997, the morning after Paul won 4 CCMA's. I was obviously ecstatic. On Sept. 13th the tickets would be going on sale. I was at the ticket master about 2 hours before they went on sale. There were about 12 people in line in front of me. Meanwhile I chatted with other fans of his. The tickets went on sale, and I finally got mine. It was worth the wait because I got 3rd row, aisle seats!!!!
2 days before the concert my radio station had some kind of contest. You had to call in and sing a Paul song. The best singer would win tickets to his show I had just turned on the radio because I had just woken up, so they already had their contestants. One girl wanted to sing a Michael Peterson song, so the DJ cut her off. I called in and got the line. I decided to sing " A Little in Love" - I sang the entire chorus. I won!!!! I was jumping around my living room, super excited ( keep in mind that I already had tickets, I now had 4 more)
Saturday, October 18th, 1997; the day of the concert had finally arrived. I couldn't sit still. That would be my first time seeing Paul live and getting the chance to meet him. I was becoming more and more nervous because I was afraid that I'd make a fool out of myself at the concert. I was convinced that I would cry and that I'd be taken out of the concert hall on a stretcher!...
I arrived at Centre Point Theatre 1h30 before the show. Near by I saw a parked bus...as I was walking towards it I saw a tall man walk onto the bus. I was so stunned that I didn't have time to react and call out Paul's name...That made me teary eyed. As we waited for the doors to open, we sat around ( my mom, uncle, and I) and we saw a familiar face, it was Cindy Church. We talked with her for a while but she had to get ready for her show.

We finally went were allowed in and when to sit in our seats. They were awesome. The stage was about 15 feet away from us. Cindy did her bid that lasted 30 minutes. A couple minutes later, they dimmed down the lights. I began to cry...
And then a DJ from Y105 came out to introduce Paul ... The first notes of " Take it From Me" began and Paul waltzed out on stage. I completely lost control, and never really got it back. Paul walked up to my side of the stage, I ran up to him . He waved to me. The second song he sang was " One and Only One". Paul walked back to my side of the stage , so I ran back up to him. This time, much to my surprise, he bent down and shook my hand. I was in total shock, I nearly fainted.
Through out the show Paul would go to my side of the stage and sing and smile to me. ( at this point I'm still crying my eyes out) People were turning around and looking at me. I kind of felt like the girl in Paul's video " I Do" ... |

Paul told us to get up a few song before the end. I ran to the stage and started dancing along with other fan. Paul would look at me and smile. The concert came to an end, luckily for me I had stopped crying. I went backstage. I waited in line, and finally it was my turn. I walked up to him and we have each other a hug. I didn't say much to him. So many things I wanted to say, but I was speechless. I did manage to ask him something ; " How do you pronounce your real last name?". Thank God he laughed and answered my question. Who asks that? Oh Yeah, as I was with him I told him how I had sang his song on the radio, he thought that was pretty cool. He signed my T-Shirt ( which I only wore twice. I don't want to wash it ?cause it might get his autograph out), and my " Calm Before the Storm" CD.
It was over. The day that I had been waiting for forever had come and gone to quickly. Unfortunately, my film with my pictures of Paul didn't turn out ( That's a whole other story about how I began to cry at the photo booth at the Walmart ) |
