I found out at 10h00 PM on Friday, October 9th, 1998 that Paul would be coming to Ottawa again. I was very excited, but I would have to wait 4 days before the concert would officially be announced. I listened to the radio, Paul was making the announcement with the DJ. It is then that I learned that Paul would be having a private concert, a fan appreciation concert if you will. No fan club member had priority, you simply had to win tickets to go. I was heart broken, I couldn't help but cry...
I called day and night the radio station, trying to win tickets. Day after day I heard people who couldn't care less about the concert win tickets. Sunday, Nov. 8th, 29 days after I had learned about the show , 29 day before the show date I won tickets, it was a miracle. I began to cry, I was speechless, for a split moment I couldn't even remember my name. Anyway, I got my seats, which were super far from the stage, but at least I was going.
Monday, December 7th, 1998 Fan Jam 98. That day Paul was to deliver teddy bears and a 2 500$ cheque to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. I was going to be there. 2 hours before he arrived I went down to were the press conference was to be held. Some people from Young Country Y105 and Warner Music Canada ( Paul's record label) came and sat with me. Paul finally arrived. I started bawling my eyes out. Paul saw me and gave me a " Ah, don't cry!" kind of look. He said hi to me.

Near the end of the conference one of the DJ said " There's a lady who's here, that's been sitting here since about 10h00 am, waiting to see you Paul, and we'd like to up grade her tickets just a little bit and give her a pair of tickets, on the floor..." . I jumped up and ran into Paul's arms. I couldn't stop crying, it was unbelievable. He gave me my tickets, and another hug. My tickets were in the 7th row!!!. I was on the news and I was the talk of the radio station all day.
I was really excited when I arrived at Civic Centre Theatre. I think that I was glowing when I walked all the way down to the floor section. The concert began at 7h30, Lisa Brokop came out and gave a great performance . She sang one of my favorite songs, " Give Me a Ring". At the end of her show she had an autograph session. I got to meet her and get my picture taken with her. Unfortunately our picture together didn't turn out...

| About 30 minutes later it was Paul's turn. The show began with a montage of high lights of Paul's career. He also spoke about his recent trip to Africa. I stood beside the stage as I waited for Paul to come out. A girl from Y 105 came to see me and gave me a front row/ centre stage seat !!! I was super hyper. Next thing I knew Paul's shadow appeared on a white sheet...the crowd went nuts. And then it dropped. I didn't cry that time. His first song was " Chain Reaction". Paul have us a taste of songs from his upcoming album. We heard " Basic Young Man in Love". Paul also though us a little bit of " There's a World Out There". We also heard songs from his Christmas album " Shall I Play for You" (...oh, yes you may...*lol*) He sang " Jingle Bells" with Lisa, and he performed " Run, Run Rudolph" with antlers, that were given to him by his drummer, Chuck Fields. |

I ran to and from the stage about a zillion times to take pictures. This time I did get whicked pics. I knew that the concert was coming to an end so I wanted to enjoy it to it's fullest. I decided to go and dance at the front of the stage as Paul was singing " Take it From Me". I danced and sang along. Paul was happy to see me having fun, he'd flash me his wiched smile . At the end of that song a whole bunch of people ran up to the stage and joined me. I basically created the big riot. He finished the show with our favorites such as " Pass Me By", " Yeah !" and" A Little in Love". He came back for his encore . He sang his new song " Come on", the sister song to " Yeah !" and "Six Days on the Road"
The concert ended to quickly, but for us fan club members, the fun had just begun. I spoke to some other fans as I waited to meet him for the 2nd time in a day. He greeted me with a sweet and sincere " Hi Jennifer! " ( he remembered my name !...*lol*) We spoke for a bit, I got him to sign a few of my things, and we took a picture together.
Obviously, it was a very emotional day for me, and I guess you can see why. With the reaction that I had at CHEO, I don't think that Paul will ever forget me...if he does, I'll forgive him...*lol*. 12h00's after the concert my concert pictures had already been developed... |
