Handprinting Experience Recognizing Overseas Soldiers
This page is to inform you about collective art for soldier
Setting up a collective handprint art peace
To set up a collective handprint art peace you will need about the same material as a collective art peace. Press the button on the side of this paragraph to see how to set up collective art peace.   If you are doing the art peace on a table I recomend that you use colored pencils to trace the hands and oil pastels to color it in. If you are using an easel then the pencil won't work to trace but can be used for detail work inside of the handprint. If you are using a table make sure you have enough room for the people to go all the way around the table. This way you can get more people tracing their hands at the same time. Like doing a collective art peace make sure if your out side to watch for gusts of wind that can blow over your art work. on a table like on an easel you are going to want the cloth to be tight. You can use clamps on the ends and in the middle or you can staple it. Whichever make sure that the cloth is tight.
This is a handprint peace being done at ground zero on 9/11/04. Its always special when you do one at an event or festival because you can't come back to that moment again.
HOW TO RUN A COLLECTIVE HANDPRINT ART PEACE
Running a collective handprint art peace isn't that much different than running a regular art peace. The guidelines are up to you but what I've found that work are: Don't put your name on the art peace at all,(if you allow them to write ). Hands have to be colored in or drawn in. If your are allowing writing have them color the hand in first and then write only inside of the handprint, this save space and looks better Try to get each person to put their handprint as close to someone else hand as possible. This elimates having a lot of open spaces where handprints can't fit. Parents must draw with their children. With a family try to get them to have their hands touch each other, this way whoever sees the art peace will know that that was a family. Also make the parents color in their own hands. It important to have the parents and children bonding together on the art peace. If you have babies around do a footprint. Its a lot easier than a hand because they can't move it around as much and it looks awesome on the art peace. What I do is have the parents put their first name and age inside the footprint. How you run the art peace is up to you but I'll tell you sometimes you have to push people to be creative. Tell them to use more than one color and be forsefull when you say it. When you push on a handprint art peace they turn out better nad isn't that what we want for our soldiers.
HOW TO GET THE ART PEACE TO A SOLDIER OVERSEAS
The best way to get the art peace to a soldier is to mail it directily to them. If you put it in a box I've been told it will take a lot longer to get there. So mail it in a big envolope and it will get there faster. What if You have no one to send it too. You can do like I do and ask everyone that puts their handprint on the art peace if they know someone. I've also talked to a recuiter and he said that they will give you name of soldiers over there but not add.. What you might have to do is check the phone book and find the soldiers parents. There are over 100,000 troops over in Irak there must be someone from your area that is over there.
