Route to the Falls

I really do need those crampons!

This is the route up to the plunge pool of the Lower Yosemite Falls. Normally this would be a seething cascade of water, but as has already been mentioned, the water level at the height of the summer was quite low, meaning the waterfalls were more of a trickle. It also meant that this route was prime for a climin'.

It took quite a while to scramble over these rocks, and although it may not look it on the photo, it was a long way up! (Look just below centre: that's a person!) You can tell how high it was from the view we had when we got to the top, (see previous and next pages).

It was kind of cool because there were only a few people up there (relative to the throngs of people in the park, who never stray more than 100m from their cars!), just those who were intrepid enough to find this secluded little area!

This was definitely one of the coolest things we did in Yosemite, and easily compensated for the lack of oomph in the waterfalls!
