Up Close with Liberty

Liberty up close

This is an unusual view of the Statue of Liberty, taken from the pedestal that she stands on. The pedestal was as high as we were able to go, because only the first boat load of passengers first thing in the morning is allowed up to the crown, because at the height of summer, apparently it isn't safe to have a lot of people in such a cramped, hot area, which to be honest, seems a little soft to me. Still, it is surprising how tall the statue actually is, especially when you stand on just the pedestal and look down 10 stories!
