This was how I got around America. I had a 30 day Ameripass, that let me just turn up at the bus station and just hop on any bus at any time, which was very handy! Granted, a coach isn't the comfiest method to travel around, but it was relatively cheap, and there is so much to see by just staring out the window (when you can't sleep on a 13 hour journey!)
