Note   Not all Poles are Catholic and any statements to the contrary are not true and have never been true. However, most present-day Poles are, it seems certain, Catholic.

On the other hand, there has been over a thousand years of the presence by the Roman Church in Poland, which country for that reason is, it seems necessarily, to be considered as the Eastern-most reach of the Western civilisation, of 'the West' — so called, somewhat inexactly.

Mark Well : any 'controversiorum theologicorum' (J. Prideaux) on this subject, if major, would more likely than not have some un-Polish sources. Such an analysis seems possible :

    (a) The anti-Catholics (of the honest sort) can consider that not all could have been always bad under the denomination. Some things were not, by any recknoning, and careful discrimination cannot but help. See the following.
    (b) The non-Catholics can consider that the Roman Church has been historically very good at combatting and/or containing the marxist-leninist plague. One can easily imagine that some people might be afraid of extensive influence of the Roman Church —: may no such attitudes open the door to more barbarism.
    (c) The Polish (etc) Catholics can consider that the Polish civilisation has had such major contributions made by non-Catholic workers that no controversiorum theologicorum (all man-made) should obstruct what has been valuable and what can be use today.
