In the beginning of my time on the Prypet Marshes, our shoots were carried out with a modest form of comfort only. We camped out in small sheds, known s Budans, closed in on three sides but with the fourth open and facing a big log fire.
Though luxury is not a necessity, it is only a fool who makes himself uncomfortable, and with the intensity of the Polish climate the comforts were very pleasant.
The season range from tropical heat in the early summer, to the cold of the Arctic regions in the late autumn, and I soon copied the example of the Poles, who were adepts at
clothing themselves to match the climate. In the summer I wore canvas trousers and native sandals, and in the autumn I clad myself in furs, but always very light ones, in which it was possible and comfortable to shoot.
At the end of August our shooting started in real earnest and on a very big scale.
