Penthesilea is a theatreplay (a drama, to be exact) by Heinrich von Kleist.

It deals with the queen of the amazons, named Penthesilea, who falls in love with her worst enemy, Achilles.

It has a tragic ending, because of many misunderstandings between the two persons, but also because of the enormous group-power, that these two have to represent:

Achilles stands for the Greek, Penthesilea for the Amazons.

They're very different from each other, and for me, the group of the amazons represented the wild nature in pure form. Therefore, I gave 'my' Penthesilea a nature-like costume with wooden pieces on the assymetric corsage, pieces of leaves lined up in a kind of Voodoo-way, and simple dark brown pants and bare feet.

The make up and the hair is more of the 'warrior'-side of her. It's aggressive by its' colours and underlines her extreme feelings.

On her side and her feet, she has some Maori-like tattoos (they were painted with a kajal-eyeliner), which also shows her group-refences.

Here are some photos of a performance in my college, my Penthesilea was played by N. Fuhrmann:
