This week brought with it more classes and more fun. We had some driving and some shooting along with our classroom time.
Driving was our Patrol Drive 1. This is where you and two other cadets along with a Corporal go driving around Regina. They teach you how to drive in a police car properly, how to do a U turn, how to parallel park, how to turn a corner. I had a fairly decent drive, I just have to work on braking smoother and some more on my parallel parking. All of us got P's for our effort, except one cadet who managed to get a Superior for his driving. Good Job!!
Drill for me this week wasn't so good. We had our regular drill corporal watching us as usual but this week we also had a constable who was working with him. So we had two sets of eyes to watch our every step. I was first corrected for not standing up straight enough, then I was yelled at for not having my arms straight enough while I was marching. The drill instructors asked me if I was a ballerina instead of a cop. Ouch! But overall we are improving our marching as a troop. We are learning more and more commands and are starting to look a lot better. We just have to keep practicing.
Firearms was another class we had this week and I didn't do very well at all. My shooting was consistently not in the centre mass and I was criticized for my stance and my grip. The line officer thinks there might be a problem with my sights, I always seem to be to the right side of the target, but they will check that next class.
We also learned how to clean our guns, so now we have to have them clean whenever we go to class. More stuff to do, oh boy.
We also had our first scenarios this week. We broke up into groups of 6 and went around Depot playing out different scenes where 2 of us were cops, 2 were actors and 2 of us were observers. This was interesting, it really made me feel like we were actual officers dealing with problems. We had to take notes and do up reports about what we took care of, it was cool.
However this week was a shortened one because of the Easter holiday. So we got out of class on Thursday at 4 pm and don't have to be back until Tuesday. Four days of sleeping in!!! Now that is nice.
